Description
CHI - NYI Trade

Somewhat different spin on an agreed-upon trade. Isles get a depth forward and cap space. Chicago gets a veteran cap dump, a forward prospect, and a 4th round pick (Holmstrom + 4th = 2nd).

---

MTL-NYI Trade

Montreal gets a francophone 3C signed long-term and gets loose from Armia. Isles gain cap space (buying out Armia) and a 3rd pairing RHD to replace Mayfield.

---

BUF-NYI Trade

Buffalo gets rid of a couple of unnecessary players, gain a depth prospect LHD, a goalie prospect, and a 2nd round pick. Isles get a PP scorer and a backup goalie.

i appreciate trying to be different on the Hawks trade just for the sake of being different. Reese Johnson has pretty minimal value to me so I'm not going to include him in my assessment here.

I think it simply comes down if you think the value you're going to get out of that 4th rounder plus Holmstrom is going to equal that of a 2nd rounder in this draft. 1st, assessing the player himself, I don't think Holmstrom is that intriguing of a prospect anymore, and he doesnt profile as the sort of older prospect Davidson would swing for. The other thing to keep in mind, is Davidson probably would prefer the 2nd rounder to use as trade up bait, whereas Holmstrom and a 4th probably doesnt have the same value to a trade up team that the 2nd round pick would. I probably wouldnt do it

This Hawk fan says yes. Collecting more and more 2nd round picks (the general concensus of the cost to dump Bailey) at some point stops having us much value when you have have 10 over the next 4 drafts already. Holmstrom gives you a player further along the development curve ready to (at least) try to play at the NHL level as opposed to waiting 3-4 years for a 2nd rounder to maybe get to that same point. Hawks are also fairly thin on forwards ready or close to NHL ready beyond Reichel. Most of the better forward prospects are a season if not 2 out. Holmstrom sure seems like a Davidson type as most accounts have him being a very good skater. About to turn 22 and 1st rounder draft pedigree who has 50 NHL games under his belt. Would love to try him in the NHL in the top 9 with some specialty teams and see if you can get a change of scenery bounce with an expanded role/oppurtunity. More likely he is a NHL 3rd liner than a mid to late 2nd with some upside of maybe even developing into a 2nd liner.

I value the ideas here. But at the end of the day, very few teams can afford Pageau's contract.
You said yourself he's 3c. Look at his AAV and term.
We'd rather stick Armia in the minors than replace his horrible contract with JGP.

or even buy him out ourselves. Kovacevic is in a great contract. Could get something big at the deadline if he stays consistent as he has.
