Description
Bjornfot and Kupari given their Qualifying Offers only. Obviously, some wriggle room with Vilardi's bridge deal, but someone from the main roster has to go in order to create room for the other goalie.

I'm tired of people blithely (and mindlessly) saying, "Well, you could just trade Grundstrom and Durzi and then you'd have $3 million in additional cap space." Wrong. Trading guys off the main roster creates holes that have to be filled with players whose cap hit will be about $800,000 (at least). That means trading Grundstrom nets us $500,000 and trading Durzi nets us $900,000.

As our esteemed colleague @tryger has said more than once, it looks like trading one of Viktor Arvidsson, Alex Iafallo or Trevor Moore is the most realistic solution to our cap pressure. (Of course, it's always possible -- barely possible -- Rob Blake can do some Mikey-Anderson-like magic with Gabe Vilardi.)

Maybe this will stop the Hellebuyck and Saros* idiocies. But I doubt it.

Does that seem low for Villardi?

Do you think they're signing Korpisalo and going with a Korpi/Copley tandem?

Do think the Jets and Kings line up well for a Helle trade, Kings have some assets they could part with that the Jets could use.

Haven’t done a Kings ACGM in a while, but I would probably look at moving:

1. Roy - I know he is underrated on this site, so it’s probably a dead end in a lot of places. But if Doughty is going to get his normal 25-27 min a game, Clarke is only going to see his role expand, it’s hard to imagine Roy’s minutes increasing. And trade market, as always, can be quite frothy for RD.

2. Iafallo - would seem to me that there would be a broad market for him considering he can probably fold into any existing system. Whereas a guy like Arvidsson, or even Vilardi, seem to fill a more specific need.

3. One of Kupari, Turcotte - young centers are rarely moved, so along with RD, they are best way to stretch the return for a goalie.

Just my two cents from a few thousand miles away…

Agree 100%. And, as usual, your two cents worth a lot more than I paid for them. Thanks! smile

Preach! Durzi isn’t the answer for cap space, at his contract and the points he puts up (how quickly we forget out PP woes from last season), that’s the type of contract you keep holding onto. Arvidsson is my best guess because I don’t think they reup him after this season. I know you think Iafallo, but ask yourself who do you trust on the PK and who can honestly play on every line?

No idea how this finally shakes out, one of those three will need to be moved to make a Stanley cup contending team, however LA could punt this to the trade deadline. We made the playoffs with abysmal goaltending for the first half last season.
