I doubt CHI relents on him. If they aren't getting a late 1st or better, they probably just re-sign him. Which, as you said, his slow start makes it look more likely we don't get what we want for him.

It’s not a slow start, his shooting percentage has just regressed to the mean and they cut his PP time in half.
He’s was a replacement level player getting a lot of ice time on a trash team.

I would take that deal if I was Chicago, Pittsburgh’s 2026 2nd round pick could easily fall in the 33-35 range given the age of core players like Crosby, Malkin, Letang and Karlsson.
