Description
So there’s been a lot of debate lately about how Montreal fills out their top 6 this year and even more so next season when Dach and Newhook are healthy. I like the idea of them going out and getting a young guy who doesn’t exactly play a pivotal role on his current team but given the right opportunity and some rounding out of their game may be able to fill that role in Montreal. Here are 3 guys around the same age that in my eyes have that potential and I have read about in the rumour mill at one time or another.

So my question to all is what do you think is the cost of acquisition of anyone of these three players?

You've nothing to offer us, To convince us to move Jonatan Berggren to Montreal.

If we trade Berggren it will be in a package deal, Either for a top 4 Dman a better #2C or an upgrade in goal like Carter Hart etc.

Tbh, can't see Montreal having any piece that they'd be willing to part with and excited Detroit.

Detroit's needs are goaltending, and defense (though, the latter is, imo, a coaching issue). Furthermore, the defense issue is only made worse by the fact that Yzerman signed several boneheaded contracts and we're now stuffed at defense.

It likely depends on how some of the other young centers in the system do. If Pono or Suzuki take some bigger steps in the minors this year then they might beat out Drury on the roster. As is, he wouldn't be moved until the summer anyway, so his next contract and his play throughout the year (which are certainly linked) will factor in to acquisition cost. Ultimately I'd echo what MoSeider53 said about Detroit ringing true for the Canes as well - the most likely move for Drury is as an inclusion in a package for a 2C.

I want no player under 6 feet to fill out the top 6/9.

With Caufield, Newhook, Beck, Mesar, Roy, Farrell...Need some size more than anything.

With the way Drury is currently playing, he isn’t likely to be moved. That being said, if the Canes were to find a suitable upgrade, I’m sure a move might be able to be worked out. I don’t think Montreal has anything realistic that the Canes would be willing to swap Drury for. Dvorak would be an interesting fit, as he would fit the Canes system, but he has injury issues, so Canes would probably rather keep Drury. Canes don’t need any more D, they aren’t shipping roster pieces for picks (except maybe TDA), and the Habs aren’t going to trade the winger the Canes would have interest in. As for the Habs goalies, other than Monty, I don’t think the Canes would have much interest in any of them, at which that creates a C problem for the Canes.

The Habs should consider circling back in the offseason, but I have my doubts that the Canes end up moving Drury. After all, they are hoping he will be the long term Staal replacement.
