Description
I am NOT a Leafs fan, but the pain I see you all go through made me want to fix it. I have done just that. I think Leafs Nation needs to wake up and see the value their players have outside of the GTA.
Trades:
- Marner. Sorry, Leafs Nation - he is useless in the post season, and nobody you will ever win with. NSH has plenty of grit, but need the scoring help. That locker room will eat him alive if he doesn't up the physicality/grind/grit. Saaros a true #1 & Askarov the future in goal in NSH.
- Tavares cap hit is needed IN A MAJOR WAY to begin this re-tool. JT had a nice G5, but he isn't a long term solution, time to move on. Gudas is a grizzled playoff-tough veteran DMan. Vatrano essentially plugs hole left by Marner, albeit now with a set of balls.
Signings:
- Domi and Bertuzzi get long term deals to stay. They earned it. Don't ask questions.
- Pesce and Carrier give you 2 non-AHL Dmen, which is largely what the roster currently consists of.

Why would Anaheim give up assets for Tavares?

Under no circumstances do we need his cap hit. Yes, were below the floor right now, but we're looking to add RD1 and RW1, those are both big cap hit items, we don't need a player who is a far cry from the one who signed that contract 6 years ago.

I would think Marner would do better with Ducks, and Tavares would do better with Nashville. Some adjustments to do with the deals though. Just a thought.

Why would we want to take $11 million off your hands when we have Carlsson, McTavish, Zegras and Gauthier all to play center?

One season of the three-and-a-half-year-younger 60-point Vatrano is a lot cheaper than one season of 65-point Tavares and we have the option of re-signing Frankie, which we will be both more likely and more able to do than re-sign Tavares.

Gudas declined to play in Toronto when he had the chance, and I'll bet that his feelings haven't changed. Trading him isn't in Anaheim's best interests at all because he's one of only two NHL-qualified RDs we have under contract for next season.

Saros settling for a two year $5.5M contract is about as likely as the Leafs offering me that same deal.
