MTL, PIT, NYI. Everyone leaves happy

Created by: BluesBandit
Team: 2017-18 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 2, 2018
Published: Jan. 2, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I honestly think every team leaves these trades better than when they came in. Here's why:

STL: We fill that 2 RW hole that's been plaguing us for the last year or two. We take a chance on Galchenyuk that basically means we don't need to go all in for Tavares but still can due to the cap flexibility. I really like Sobotka but Rust and a 1st was proposed on HF Boards and I think it's a good deal. Reaves needs to come home and Thor should go fill his role in PIT. Trade away Gunns from an area of depth for a high pick.

MTL: They start their rebuild, trade was extensive so look at that description.

NYI: Have the worst GAA in the league at 3.54. Gunnarsson has really stepped up this year and would help solidify that blueline. They still have a 2nd this year too.

PIT: Pitt should never be counted out with Crosby, Kessel, and Malkin. Getting Sobotka would help the 3C role immensely. He's great on faceoffs and in his own zone. He'll be great in the playoffs. Bennett has played well in PIT before as well and could maybe rekindle his magic.
Trades
1.
STL
  1. Galchenyuk, Alex
  2. Gallagher, Brendan
  3. Lernout, Brett
Additional Details:
STL gets;
Trying to give Galcheyuk a spark and reset his mind about being a center, he hasn't clicked with the coach in MTL. If not, he is solid at any one of the three forward positions.

A solid RHS RW who would fit great in Yeo's system.

A big RHS defenceman who is basically a body for AHL.
MTL
  1. Barbashev, Ivan
  2. Blais, Samuel
  3. Kyrou, Jordan
  4. Schmaltz, Jordan
  5. Steen, Alexander
  6. 2019 1st round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
MTL gets:
A guy who will win OHL scoring title this year and can slide into their Top 6 as soon as next year. He's looking like a stud in the WJC too.

A two-way responsible veteran who can occupy a Top 6 Role for MTL and give 50 points a year.

A guy who's been buried behind Petro/Colt and is doing really well in the AHL. Very good puck moving RHS defenceman, would start immediately for MTL as a bottom paring and power play defensemen.

Good young Middle 6 Center who played our first line in the playoffs last year.

French Canadian LW who has played well in limited action for the Blues this year.

We're giving up Galchenyuk and Gallagher and aren't getting Thomas in return? Forget about it.

Wait really? I'd actually consider that if we get a good prospect/pick as well, it's better than this package. What if we don't retain on Chucky and instead take Sobotka to make the cap work?

Something like this:
Galchenyuk + Gallagher
for
Thomas + Sobotka + Walman/2nd?

I'm not opposed to the MTL deal value wise but Thomas would absolutely need to be one of the players coming back. Schmaltz, Barbashev and Blais can all be removed if need be. (Not that I wouldn't want them but I would rather concede those guys and get Thomas added)

As for retaining, yeah sure If the deal would go through, MTL could retain on Galchenyuk's contract if needed.

Honestly ask any Hab fan, its Gallagher that is the big fish there. He is literally right at the point of being so good for us that only an overpay would be considered. Simply getting equal value is not worth it. Gally is like the soul of the Habs. Similar to a Schwartz but not quite as talented offensively but more rambunctious/rugged in play.

Big no. Rust for Sobotka is iffy 1for1 for me.

So bad for the Habs... By your logic you would be willing to accept
McCarron, Pacioretty, De La Rose, Bourque, Waked, & a 2nd FOR Schwartz, Schenn, and Dunn
