Weber is a great D but horrible contract. Loosing him but filling holes in proper places would help

Lol. You really are an average fan.

I get MTL would want a lot but I don't have interest in him with that term, even retained. We give a 2C, future top4D, future top9W, and a 1st all very cost controlled for an expensive top2D. I feel we could find better options that would fit our situation better.

As for the other deal I don't think Liljegren is a piece we should have any interest in moving. His potential is so high, dealing that is a major risk I wouldn't be taking. Not bad value wise though.

Dude, learn some math. As long as he plays top-4 minutes, Weber's contract is not that horrible in an $80M+ cap world. And his real cash cost drops to $6M this year and $3M in a few. That means he will be pure gold for any "floor team" who needs a high-cap/low cost player)

First of all, MTL would not do a trade with the leafs... you are a rival... and we don't want you to win the cup! Weber could get us a #1 center somewhere... so our 2nd, 3rd line is fine... all we have is top9 players with a few top 6 and one top 3

First, There is zero chance in MTL trading Weber unless its a lateral/upgrade on D or for a legit #1C... Doing so means that Bergevin is basically signing his own pick slip.
Second, Weber is a #1 D (for now) and will be a Top pairing guy for at least another 3-4 years with the right partner (barring injury of course). Not that MTL/TOR deal would ever happen, but if your moving him for prospects, you better believe the starting price would be Liljegrin.
Lastly, Everyone seems to complain about the length of his contract as if it is a major burden to Montreal... but few people recognize that his contract holds value in the final years if there is even a chance he might retire before 40. In other words, I wonder what Nashville would give up in order to put Weber on LTIR instead of facing an 8Mx3, 12Mx2 or even 24Mx1 cap hit.
