I think it's nearly impossible to give the edge to one or the other.

Last year, Provorov played the majority of his 5v5 ice time with Andrew MacDonald while Werenski played with Seth Jones, a clear and obvious upgrade over MacDonald.

I think that there is too much content to properly evaluate as to who is better, especially since it is only their second year in the league.

From what I've seen of the two, I prefer Provorov because he's a better defensively. It's very very close though

Provorov is the better defender I feel but Werenski is the better offensive dynamo. Both guys are still good at both ends at the end of the day. Its like picking between Karlsson and Doughty. Can't go wrong with either.

It's pretty close, but i'd have to go with Werenski. Sure, Provorov plays with MacDonald, but Werenski played with Seth Jones who, in my opinion, is a little bit overrated (not much, just a bit). Mainly that some think he's a future top 5 or 10 NHL d-man. He's got that potential but i'm not sure how likely that actually is. MacDonald is underrated. Sure, he's not a top pairing defenseman, or even a top 4 defenseman, but he's a good, bottom pairing guy. And even to fans who know that you have to be very good to play in the NHL, and understand that, he's still a bit underrated because he's not a 7th defenseman, he's an okay top 6 guy. It really depends who else you have but on the average team he's probably a good #6.

Provorov's good but also, you look at how much better the Jackets were in 2016-17 than they were in 2015-16, and i think he was a big part of that. Not the only reason but he was one of the main guys they added, so i think he's a big reason they were that much better. The Flyers were actually worse in 2016-17 than 2015-16. Not saying Provorov made them worse, they would be worse without him, but he didn't seem to make his team as much better as Werenski did. I'm using last year and the year before (instead of this year) just because that was when they first came into the league. So sure, the Flyers are better this year than last year, and better than Columbus this year i believe, but they were both there last year too.

Provy. He's an animal now with his TOI and defensive prowess but I may be biased.

Depends on the situation. If I'm down a goal with 1:30 to go, I want Werenski. If I'm up a goal with 1:30 to go, I want Provorov.

But if I had to pick one of them to build my defense around, I'd go with Provorov. I feel that the difference between the offensive output between the two is less than the difference between the defensive abilities.
