Can It Be Done?? Karlsson and Tavares For 1 Year??

Created by: Laynious

Description
Ok go easy here.....its just a fun idea of "what would it look like if it DID happen??" Too much/too little for Karlsson? I thought 2 first round pick plus 2 pretty good prospects for one of the best D in the league for 1 year was pretty fair (Personally I'd rather have Doughty but I digress). This would be a "Do or Die" season for the Leafs and even after they both go, we would still be competitive after. We have a lot of good young player coming up and winning a Cup would do wonders for their development!

What say you??

I guess it could work for 1 year of those guys. I mean, it won’t happen, but it’s a great scenario.

Even if this was the best the Sens could do for EK, they would never ever trade him to the leafs. In this case, they would either resign him or offer him up to the second-best offer.

In a fantasy-NHL type of situation where the Leafs and Sens played in different conferences, maybe, though I think that deal wouldn't do it, even if it's for a 1-year rental of Karlsson. Realistically, the Leafs have this plan for sustained development, growth and success, so that deal would be counter-intuitive, even if it helps them in the immediate future and short term. Also, on John Tavares, that would incredibly risky of him. I think if he signed a 1 year deal anywhere, it would be with the Islanders. My sense, however, is that he will sign a deal with either the Stars or Devils.

Yes. The offer is light for EK. If the Leafs had the best offer on the table, I honestly don't think the Sens would have a problem trading EK to them. They would presumably be taking a chunk of the Leafs' future out from under them in exchange for a player they theoretically have no chance to keep.

It two offers appear somewhat equal...then I'd see them inclined to move EK as far away from the division as possible.

With your cheapass owner, he'd probably accept that

IMO if you swap Marner for a 2nd tier winger like Kapanen/Brown along with Liljegren and 2 firsts...it's closer than 2 firsts, a fourth, and a couple of b-listers

Its a purely Fantasy scenario for the Leafs. I really don't think the Sens would balk at a good trade for EK65 no matter who it came from. Yeah my offer may be light and you could swap Neilsen for Liljegren. Leafs would be kinda dumb to do this kind of deal anyway. I get that.

Agreed on both parts. I don't think Ottawa would refuse trading EK to toronto if the offer was right.....and the right offer is more than I'd personally like to give up for EK

Karlsson deal isn’t out of this world horrible but it’s definitely not enough, Sens start with asking for an A+ prospect, 2 1sts and move on with more pieces from there. Also no idea why Tavares would sign somewhere for a year just to be 100% gone the following year.

a 60 point winger, unproven nhl prospect and 2 late firsts for a 27 year old 70 plus point defenseman? in a bad season he can put up 60 points, while 60 points for other d-men is considered a career high for them.

A trade involving Karlsson to Toronto must include Nylander or Marner in my eyes.

ex.
Toronto gets: Karlsson, Ryan
Ottawa gets: Marner, Martin, Liljegren and a 2018 first.

I know a 1 for 1 doesn't even get it done...but I honestly wouldn't trade Marner for EK straight up. EK is a dominant offensive D-man but I've seen this young leaf core make him look silly defensively on multiple occasions the past 2 years that I'd rather play against him than play against Marner.

Same here and this is why that kind of trade will never happen. Marner is 20, Nylander is 21, Matthews is 20, Rielly is 24, Liljegren is 18-19....I'd rather keep all these guys
