Jonathan Quick? How close is the value to being right?

Created by: joshelkin
Team: 2018-19 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: May 29, 2018
Published: May 29, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Lamoriello traded a 1st for Cory Schneider in 2013 and a 1st & 2nd for Frederik Andersen in 2016.

Could Quick be the answer to the Islanders woes?

LA obviously got swept. It wasn't a good showing, maybe they would consider something like this? "Realism" aside, how close is the value to being right?

The thing is, Vancouver had friction with Luongo and Schneider both being good and wanting to start and Anaheim had Gibson coming up and outplaying Andersen.

LAK has nothing. Wedgewood and Campbell.... Making this move would mean rebuilding or signing a guy like Mrazak but i can't fathom them trying to pull that one. Either make the team better now or rebuild. Can't have it both ways.

I actually don't mind this trade from both sides. It would be an incentive for Tavares to stay in NY, who would be a lot more competitive, and it would allow L.A to get some good pieces to retool. Although I do think you're going to have to take away one of those 1st rounders to make this deal work for NYI.

Also, it would be somewhat of a gamble. Do you think Quick still has some good years in front of him at 32 years old?

Just what I was going to say! I don't think acquiring Jonathan Quick will be nearly as possible as the options you provided in your comments. If he was truly going big, he might set his sights on Braden Holtby. Holtby has a fairly reasonably cap hit for the next 2 seasons before he becomes a UFA. Acquiring Holtby might also convince Tavares that the Islander mean serious business. Plus, I'd be willing to bet that, pending the right offer for Holtby, and considering they signed Ilya Samsanov to an ELC, the Caps would be willing to bet on Phillip Grubauer as their starter.

I think LA would be willing to make this deal due to there track record of developing goalies. Jack Campbell is a forsure NHL backup with loads of potential left he can potentially become the next Martin Jones if that happens then I can see LA potentially moving Quick if the return is correct and for the Islanders I think they will need Anders Lee in return

If Lee was involved, A LOT would have to be taken off of the table for it to work. He isn't an "add-on" piece here

Also if the deal above goes through LA has two great goalie prospects to develop in Cal Petersen and Linus Soderstrom

I would probably go Lee (with an extension) and 12 for Quick. I would expand it to add some of the younger pieces back if LAK wants to toss Martinez in.

Of course we're biased, but I agree. His hand-eye is unmatched and the net front presence irreplaceable.
