Setting up for the future (MTL Trade)

Created by: sidsoul88
Team: 2018-19 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 4, 2018
Published: Jun. 4, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not touching the lines but this is a trade i think works well for both teams. MTL gets their 1C and BUF gets a scoring winger to compliment Eichel. BUF still has work to do but I think it's a solid start

I mean, other than it's unrealistic...

To make #3 happen you need to take a cap dump and give them either 32 or SJ's first next year

If I'm Montreal, I wouldn't trade the #2 pick overall straight up for O'Reilly.

You’ll need more to get #3 imo. I know you took on Shaw but I still don’t think that’s enough to get this trade to go through

Not retaining, not taking on shaw. There are teams desperate for a number one center. 3OA+ should end up being the asking price based off of other team's needs and the fact that the sabres don't need to do anything with ROR.

I wouldn’t mind taking on Shaw OR retaining, but both... no way. If ROR is going in division it’s 3OA or bust

Sabres fans are going to be really disappointed with the return they get for ROR , no team in there right mind would give up a top 5 pick for him......well i guess i said in there right mind and it is the Habs lol But in all honesty i can see them going a cheaper option and signing Bozak

I like Svechnikov more than for Zadina, and Carolina seems to need a center in the top 6.

I actually doubt Carolina gives up the #2 pick. They can't afford to move away cheap talent. If ROR goes to Carolina it will be for a veteran player that is coming up on big contract (Hanifin, Faulk or Spooner). Carolina is so cheap that the rumor is that they won't trade for ROR until after July 1st when he gets a $7.5 mil bonus so they only have to pay him $1 mil this year.

The thing is the Sabres don’t have any need to move ROR. They are fine on cap space, and he has term left. So any deal that happens is going to be a good one for Buffalo. It’s situations like the Kane trade that gets teams in trouble bc they had to trade him or else lose him for nothing. ROR has 5 years left on his deal with no NTC or NMC in the future so If they have to trade him I’d say Dahlin is a Norris finalist and gets a 10M mega deal, it’s easy to do so
