WPG would be improved with this deal. But I'm not sure Florida improves. Trocheck is a monster.

Because they are cheap. they could have had him locked up long term 2 years ago for $5 mil per. They had all the cap space in the world then but wouldn't do it. Now they are screwed cap wise even with all those team friendly deals.

The 7 Mill was all about the salary arbitration. Its the fact that he doesn't want to stay in WPG.

Trouba was never offered 5M per. They never even got to the negotiating table from the sounds of it and it's more likely Trouba wants to play south of the border.

I understand that but if they had of offered him $5 mil per the first time he went to arbitration, a 22 year old kid isn't going to turn that down.

I think he was wanting 6 at that time. He wasn't worth it then...

You would need to add a whole more to get just Trocheck if he was available which he isn’t. That being said Panthers don’t need Trouba

Don’t think Florida says yes to this. Trochek is a 60 point center and very good defensively. Plus they already have Ekblad and Pysk on the right side so why give up one of the leagues best 2C.

I really don't think Florida "wants" Trouba. Seems like there is a lot of panic involved with Trouba just because he going to a UFA in two years. Lots of players are going to UFAs in two years, what's the big fuss.

Maybe because the $7 million he wants is on a short term deal, He wants $8 million on a long term deal that's why.

this kid did! He's thinking he can make it up by becoming a UFA at 26 years old.

Here is the math until he turns 33. At 33, unless he is a super stud he will likely see a decline in his pay. In scenario 2, he becomes a UFA at 30 and likely signs another 5-7 year deal at a high rate, say $8 mil per, which in the long run would have paid him more total money over his career.

$6 mil (last 2 year deal) + $5.5 (this deal) + $6 ( next years 1 year deal) + $49 mil (UFA contract @ 7x $7, can't see him getting more than this) = $66.5 mil until age 33
$40 mil ($5 mil x 8 years) + $24 mil ($8 x 3 years, will likely be longer term) = $64 mil until age 33...this is a negligible difference in pay.

So I like what you've done but the likelyhood of an 8 year deal initially wouldn't have been there. Maybe more like the Morgan Reilly at 6 or 7 years. That's 1-2 more prime years of pay added on which probably adds another 2.5-5M but depends on how fast he curtails off. The other thing is the negligible part you've alluded to and if accurate, then not only is it NOT going to cost him money in the long run it'll also have the added benefit of him playing where he wants to by reaching UFA faster. Also doesn't take into account if he signs the UFA deal in say TB or FLA as rumored prefered destinations the tax implications for that contract are 20%. I added a rating to this post not for the OP but for your work in those #'s !!!
