Panarin wants a big, coastal city so I don't think he would sign in Colorado. Also, there is no way you can get positive value for Soderberg.

Soderberg is a bit over paid but he still holds value, he has a nice season last year. If a 35 year old Plekanec who had 26 points can fetch a 2nd rounder. a 32 year old 37 point Soderberg can fetch something

Russian factor is huge with the Avs. That would be the one reason that would maybe give a little credence to the idea

Zadorov, Kamenev, Varly on the roster currently. Boikov, Shvyryov in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles, have drafted 7 Russian the past 3 drafts. They are not scared of the "russian factor"

if this scenario works out for the avs, they will be an instant cup contender IMO

Yeah Colorado wont be bad enough to get the top 2 picks, No way the only way Colorado has a chance for Jack Hughes is with the Ottawa 2019 1st round pick.

Avalanche have Ottawas 1st pick.. good chance they get the first anyway so no need to tank it, plus you have the wrong season to get Hughes

I think its a long shot based on what Panarin is rumoured to be looking for....but Avs go after russians a lot. They almost landed Radulov twice when he was making his return to the NHL, whatever they are doing they know how to connect with Russian players

Like most 2nd/3rd line players...thats just the going rate for players like him. Bozak is making 5m+ to be a 3rd line C and his stats are going to drop like crazy this year. Bonino, makes 4.1m Bakes makes 6m, Hanzal makes 4.75m Derek Ryan and Beagle signed for over 3m.

Soderberg contract is just want fill in 2nd/3rd line guys make now

This is a very reasonable long-term strategy. The nos. 1 - 2 dream thing doesn't even affect it much; you're building a good team here.

You'd have to Tonya Harding, Mack and others to get this team to be second to last or last in the league next year. LOL

Carolina wasn't even a bottom 10 team last year... still landed svechnikov

By sheer luck but that's besides the point. If Colorado's horses come to play they shouldn't be in contention for a lottery pick. But yes even Washington can potentially suck this year and win the draft....... Technically.

Better chance of Gretzky geting cloned and joining the NHL at 18 again than COL getting first overall with OTT pick unless OTT trade their big 3.
