Bowey is the best player in this trade, as soon as he gets the power play ice time he was drafted for. You draft a kid with back to back sixty point seasons in juniors, promote him early from the AHL, and give him 2:09 power play ice time, career, for an average of 0:02 per game?
I think I was on here about twenty times last summer saying to leave Bowey in the AHL and develop him, and everybody said Trotz knew best. But no one has time to read back and count.
Bowey has a higher ceiling than Nylander, and if you put him on a team like the Leafs, whose best right handed offensive defenseman can't crack the NHL's top fifty right shot defensemen in even strenght points, he's going to start to get the power play opportunities that he needs, and he's going to be very, very successful.
Switch the picks and prospects, and imagine that the Caps care more about an extra 1% chance at a repeat championship than they care about staying steadily in the playoffs for the next ten years, and then maybe you can add Bowey into this conversation.
