Defence is still lacking Oilers really missed on all defensive draft picks outside the first round for about 10-12 years now

“The Oilers can’t draft”. Heard it a million times. Not true. The Oilers draft record is relatively good. The problem? They can’t develop and retain their draft picks. Invariably these kids are rushed into the line-up where they struggle. Management freaks out, and trades the player for pennies on the dollar. Said player thrives in his new environment. The Oilers end up with guys like Zack Kassian.

That ended 3 years ago, these guys just aren't in the NHL yet.

2015:
4th - Caleb Jones
5th - Ethan Bear

2016:
3rd - Filip Berglund

2017:
3rd - Dmitri Samorukov

All these guys have a very good chance of getting NHL time, and Ethan Bear already has: he played 18 games last season, scoring 1 goal and 3 assists.

it's amazing the oilers are this bad despite having two premier players in mcdavid and draisaitl. oilers are going to finish out of the playoffs again and playing in the weakest division, the pacific.

This site sees this kind of post every two weeks it seems like.

While I get the frustration, perhaps focusing on future moves instead of past ones might help more.

This is the first time i have ever seen a post like this. Good job and keep up the good work, keep digging and maybe go back to the early 90's and see what kind of team the oiler could have had.
