Lucic-Alzner

Created by: KH44
Team: 2018-19 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 6, 2018
Published: Dec. 6, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Get Alzner out of the AHL and off the roster, get a second rounder and a forward that is an NHLer, even if he is not a good one. When the lockout comes, he'll be a compliance buyout. In terms of waiving his NMC to go to Montreal, Lucic will probably be given a choice - buyout or trade, and its his choice.

I think you’d have to add the pick not the Oilers.

You said it yourself, Alzner is an AHLer. You'd need to add the pick on this one, atleast Lucic plays on a nightly basis

I don't want Montreal to be burden with Lucic contract for years to come.I would do Hard pass on that trade. If your going to trade Alzner were going to have to eat some of this year contract and get draft picks or prospects.

I doubt that. Lucic has the longer contract and the higher cap hit. Although the difference isn't a 2nd. Somewhere around a 3rd and 6th would be fair I think.

Although the 2nd is a nice extra, I don't think this is prudent. We're essentially getting a 2nd rounder to pay Alzner more money for longer and with more clause protection making him harder to move. Plus we are weak on the LHD, Alzner as bad as he is can help if there are injuries. On the wing, we're pretty overloaded as is. Lucic is only going to play 4th line with the Habs so what the benefit of him then? Finally having a guy who can fight on the team? Yay......

I wouldn't assume there is a compliance buyout next lockout. They may not or may change the rules of the buyout....

ALSO SEATTLE EXPANSION! Gonna have to protect Lucic........

No no No this is a bad idea. I would rather not have the 2nd rounder for all that.

Oilers would not give up a 2nd rounder

I’d rather have Lucic of the 2, and he’s terrible.

Habs would have to add. A pick, player, prospect retain half on Alzner, something. He has no value. Not that Looch does either. Neither belong in the NHL. At least Looch hits people.

Alzner can play as much as Lucic can. Just because Habs sent him down doesn't mean he couldn't do better than someone else bottom 6 dman.

Plus you brushing over some much important aspects that i mentioned above. Like cap difference, Term and NMC. That's why EDM needed to add. Even if Lucic is "better" than Alzner, he's playing on that teams 4th line anyway so who cares?

The basis of this trade is that both guys get a fresh start and EDM gets to cut cost and term and NMC (Seattle expansion) at the cost of a 2nd rounder. Buying out Alzner is way cheaper than it is Lucic.....

Neither belong in the NHL, so the better contract has more value. I'd rather have Alzner because he is off the books sooner. I wouldn't like the trade from a MTL perspective without an ok player and picks coming back, like what they got by taking on Mason's contract from Winnipeg. Mason cost MTL, in cap space, 2 years at about 1.5 per, Lucic would be 3 years at about that, plus 1 year at 6, along with the difference this season. But like I said the difference between Alzner and Lucic isn't that much in reality so I wouldn't want to see a deal made.

Best case scenario is you both retain half and then flip them to someone else after for 7ths. Lol.

NO that only helps Edmonton more. Best case scenario is Habs retain half on Alzner because they'd save almost 8M compared to if they traded for Lucic and did the same thing.

Any difference that makes Lucic > Alzner in ability is vastly decreased by the extra expense you take on. Like you said, he's not an NHL'er either, so where is the incentive if its ability the Habs are paying for?

After this season is over, Lucic is still due 19M. Alzner only 11M and one less year of term. Not to mention that Lucic's NMC makes moving him harder than Alzner's measly 7 team not trade list. Plus if all else fails and you want to buy out the guy, check out Alzner's cap penalty vs Lucic's..........not even close.

If anyone adds to the trade, its Edm, not MTL. Fine maybe not a 2nd rounder but something else to incentivize trading a non NHL'er cheaper Alzner for another non NHL'er more expensive Lucic.

The NMC is the great equalizer especially with another expansion coming. Without it i would rather Lucic even for an extra year and an extra 1.2m cap hit per. If he gets back to 60-70% of the player he was he is marketable. Alzner does, he still is barely usable. That NMC is a death blow tho.

Habs will have to eat half and add someone like Hudon just to get a 4th back. Or eat half and a couple premium prospects for an expiring contract.

Oilers are stuck with Lucic. At least til after the expansion draft.

Who we kidding? Both players are unlikely to get back to even their 60-70% selves. The game has changed. If you are slow, You no longer have a place in the NHL unless you also have a talent that the NHL still needs. In Lucic's case, he could also fight with the best of them but now even fighting is dramatically down soooo...... Alzner can still play in the league. Just not at that cap hit and not for the minutes he used to with Carlson next to him. He's a bottom pairing dman that plays SH minutes. He can still do that well, just he needs to be paid accordingly. Like 1.5M accordingly. Lucic at 1.5M on the 4th line since he still hits is fine also. But both scenarios are impossible since you can't retain that much in a trade. So they are equally not very valuable. So that's why i deferred to their contracts being the difference that sets them apart. Alzner's is quite a bit less bad as Lucic's. Even though Lucic is probably a better player than Alzner. But yeah that NMC is really the death blow to any team wanting to take Lucic on. Now especially with expansion coming.
