Detroit Trade

Created by: Karr31
Team: 2018-19 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 28, 2018
Published: Dec. 28, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tight trade that benefits both -

Dallas - Gets a 2nd line C that could use a change of scenery, can interchange with Spezza until taking over next yr, as well as a young fwd who immediately can help in the bottom 6.
Detroit - Gets a former Top 10 pick who could use a change of scenery, a RD also picked high in the first rd to build with, a 4th rd pick to balance current productions & contract differences, and $80k in cap space savings of which they badly need.

These teams are in different states, but this could support both with the paths they're currently on.

Would love to hear thoughts...

Real bad deal for Detroit. They're rebuilding and ras is a big piece for then going forward. Before the season I would have been ok moving AA and I still would be if you got a big piece return in the deal.

Honda and Nichuskin are both 23 years old who still haven't secured full time duty (when all the players are healthy) with the Stars. Being a former first rounder doesn't mean much now.

AA isn't getting traded. Now Rassmussen I feel was brought up too soon and that was really poor planning on Holland's part he could've ask form permission form Tri-City and Rassmussen could be in playing Grand Rapids like Zadina. Even with being brought up early he's playing better than Nichuskin this season. What is Nichuskin's he has a good season then the next season things don't go the way he wants so he goes back to the KHL? Detroit has no need or want for a player like that.

Detroit has a bunch of D with potential in their system and for now needs to get them more ice time bringing in another D doesn't make sense and based on his play this season he couldn't beat out Ericsson ice time.

DET will have over 20+ million in cap space next year, why does it need to give up 2 young assets for someone needing a change of scenery and throw-ins to save cap?

You made a comment on my post. I'm agreeing with you. Wings keep their guys. Honda and Nichuskin have faltered from their lofty first round picks years ago. Being a former first rounder at age 23 (Honda and Nichusskin)....,don't mean anything now.

DET can't ask Tri-Cities for permission. It's a CHL thing, no waivers allowed (NHL teams have even tried to pay off the CHL to no avail). It is in the contract for attendance purposes, not development purposes.

But, I also think Ras is just fine. First, he's developing in the NHL, not all players are going to score 50+ points in their first year, it does take most players a few years to develop (even in the NHL), fans are just antsy. Second, I don't see how the AHL would help him develop this skill any different than the NHL, he's a net-front, between the circles guy. He's not going to be battling guys his size and skill in the AHL (where the average AHL dman is almost 2" smaller and 10lbs lighter). Finally, he can develop under pro training sets, instead of AHL training sets. While NHL teams are heavily involved in designing the training for the AHL teams, it's still not NHL quality (the difference between LCA and Van Andel is MASSIVE in terms of equipment, number of staff, staff attention, video equipment, etc).

My issue with Ras being in DET is who he's playing with. I think he needs to see a little bit of time at C (with some quality wingers at his side, say Goose and AA), but if he's going to play the W, he needs a better C. Nielsen, for all his faults, is still a good 2 way C, and Ras should be seeing time with him, or even a little time with Larkin (especially with Mantha out). Glendening is a defensive C, and Ras's offensive game is never going to florish with Glendening or De La Rose as his C.

I was going to say the both AA and Rassmussen have made solidified spots on the Wings, compared to the Dallas players you mentioned hadn't yet done that. When I changed that I should've unlinked from your comment. I'm sorry about that

I could be wrong so I''m going to explain it how I understand it and If I'm wrong by all means correct me because I'd rather get the rule right. I know if you still have eligibly in the CHL you are supposed to play there before playing in the AHL. To keep the talent level in the CHL as high as it can be. Now I know they had to get permission from Halifax to keep Zadina in Detroit and be able to send him to Grand Rapids instead of going back to Halifax. By the time camp ended and we still and we had Rassmussen we had 2 choices send him back to TRI-City and burn a year of his contract or keep him in Detroit with out the possibility of sending him to Grand Rapids. So are they asking the individual team or the CHL for the ability to send Zadina to Grand Rapids?

I think it worked out well for Rassmussen but that was as much luck as it was planning. Rassmussen has shown he does belong in the NHL and can take about any thing dished out to him. All thats left is to get comfortable enough to produce like he did in Tri-City.

You think Rassmussen should be playing more center I get but what about AA with his improvement on D and his speed I think he should be playing center more. Next year we have Veleno who is a center and after watching him play he is a step ahead of AA and Ras with the defensive aspects of the game. It may take a little longer to make it to Detroit, but he is a true 200ft player where AA has had to work on the defensive part of the game. but that is just opinion.

Zadina was "on loan" from his Czech team, so he isn't a contracted CHL player, which means he can be sent to the AHL. I know its a little weird. Since Zadina started playing in the Czech league, his primary rights were owned by a Czech team, and when he was drafted by a CHL team, he asked for (and received) permission to play in the CHL. Since he was on loan, the Czech team could pull him back, or in this case, his rights transferred to Detroit, which could put him anywhere. Many top European players are the same way, even if they are drafted by the CHL during the Import Draft (which gives a CHL team his rights in the CHL, but does not supercede any rights in their home league). If he was drafted in the CHL Entry Draft, that would give the CHL his primary rights, and then he would be subject to all CHL rules. But, he went through the Import Draft. If a player already has a contract with a European team, then they get to bypass the NHL/CHL agreement.
