if anything edmonton should add a pick to get giroux, imo he's better all round than Draisaitl

The value was Giroux and a mid to late round pick for Draisaitl. I added a 4th. The picks is to account for a 31 year old signed for 3 years being traded for a 23 year old signed for 7 more. The 23 year old has more points this season.

Giroux isn't winning Selke's. He's usually late to cover his counterpart center. He was moved to wing to preserve his longevity or disguise his defensive lapses. He's very good at faceoffs though. No doubt about that.

That might be the value in the minds of some oilers fans but that’s not enough for Giroux

You're either overvaluing Giroux or massively undervaluing Draisaitl.

Congratulations you caught a lightning fan in a bottle posting on an Oiler page. I'd expect an Oiler fan would say no to this deal.

Thanks, I'll take an impartial poster over an Oilers fan's opinion.

EDM would be dumb to do that trade. Giroux is in his 30s and Draisaitl Is in his early 20s and hasn’t even hit his prime yet. That trade hurts EDM more than helps them

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA why would we take Giroux? He's 31 and his underlying numbers show he's overperforming rn. Anyone who thinks this is a good deal for the Oilers has zero hockey sense. Flyers fans are exempted, their team should be a contender with the depth they have (and should've been contending for years now) so I understand their pain and current lack of hockey sense.

The players are equal in value when you look at the length of their contracts. Then you need to also account for Draisaitl being 23, which is done here with the pick

First, if you're just going to trash each other without providing legitimate stats/facts on either side, why bother?

Second, regardless of the opinions on the value of either player, is that really the direction the Oilers should go though? A 31 year old PPG guy for a 23 year old PPG guy? It's not like Giroux is "Old" per se, and I don't think ANOTHER Oilers rebuild is the answer, but I don't think this is either.

Both guys are amazing players. Its the age that makes Draisaitl worth more than Giroux. Only age. More years of a players prime vs a player who may very well be better but is older and won't be better than Draisaitl for very long.

The Oilers would be dumb to do this trade. The Flyers should be trying to make a deal like this. You say the Flyers have depth but they do not. They're missing a 2nd line center. The bottom 6 isn't very good. There's talent that's not producing so it's likely just a bad mix. The 4th line is a real mess. They're a relatively easy team to match up on and take away skill players. The defense has too many young players on it and they played 7 goalies this year due to injuries. They're not as bad as their record is but they were only playoff bubble team as constructed.

I was saying Okay... to the other poster because you agreed with my position. This is a bad deal for the Oilers.
