My take

Description
This is my opinion of who the Habs should draft (assuming we draft 15th) and who they should sign at FA. All trades take place at the draft. They have ample cap space. Use it. they can be competitive next year. Poehling starts the year in Laval with Suzuki, Brook Fluery. Let them develop a bit more. if Poehling dominates the ahl, then maybe we consider trading Danault, and playing Poehling as 3C. IMO as a 4c, he won't get enough nhl ice time to learn the game. Resign Weal, he's been terrific.
This roster doesn't necessarily have a bunch of big names like Tampa, but it has good balanced scorers on every line. I see 6 potential minimum 50 point players in Duchene, Domi, Danault, Gallaghar, Shaw, Tatar. Petry Weber, Klefbom, Byron Lehkonen could all potentiall hit 40 as well. Add Suzuki, Poehling. Draft Raphael Lavoie. French Canadian from mtl, Right shot 6'4 winger. he adds size and strength to the forward group down the road. Also buyout Alzner, I thinm under the right conditions, he's still an nhl level defender. take the bite, and buy him out. I'd also consider signing Micheal Ferland instead of Armia if he would be interested. He's a tough player, a Jullien type player, who has a good 2 way game. in that case, we don't sign Armia or Weise, move Byron down and play Ferland on the 3rd line. Feedback would be appreciated.

  1. Klefbom, Oscar
Additional Details:
oilers fans may say that this leaves a hole on the left side, but maybe they take a left shot D in this years draft?
EDM
  1. Drouin, Jonathan
Additional Details:
Still has massive potential, im hesitant to trade him, but imo our D needs more help then offense. we have scorers coming up as well

In my opinion, its too soon to give up on Drouin. He knows he needs to be better and I don't think Bergevin is ready to move him, unless this type of deal can truly be made. I think they'll be more inclined to move someone like Lehkonen, Shaw or even Armia and bring in a left dman to play with Petry.

I think one of Suzuki or Phoeling will make the lineup, maybe even both.
Byron would go to 4th LW who can go up the line up.

yeah its just the potential is there for drouin. plus he's a winger signed long term. maybe he finds his game beside mcdavid draisaitl or rnh

i think its better if we give them time under bouchard in laval. no need to rush them. let them ripen

i agree, its just none of those wingers that you mentioned will bring in a top pairing d man to play with weber

I’d say give him the same contract as Lehkonen, 2 x 2.25. Comparable production..

I like the ideas, and Lavoie as the draft pick is a good choice if he's available at 15.

Klefbom would likely have a much bigger impact on the success of this team than Drouin over the next 5 years, even if JD evolves to be a 30 goal scorer. Adding a UFA like Duchene compensates for any lost scoring from Drouin in any case.

Strength down the middle, on top 4 defense and in net is the key to success in this league. And these moves go in that direction. If we need to add scoring on the wings at some point 2-3 years down the road that's the easiest gap to fill with free agents or trades.

They could make a push for Bowen Byram in the draft. He's the best defenseman in the 2019 draft. If they can land him, losing Klefbom becomes a lot easier to stomach. It's a gamble though. Sitting at #7, Edmonton looks like they may be just out of Byram's range. Just about every reputable mock has him going anywhere from 4-6. Big risk, but Drouin would help their offense, so it could be worth it.

May be able to use someone like Pulju to move up if necessary...

thats basically my thinking behind this. strength down the middle and a solid D core. wingers really arent hard to find, plus we have potential top 6 wingers in the pipeline. suzuki and ylonen

If I'm the New York Rangers (#6) or the Buffalo Sabres (#5), I'm willing to move down a spot or two for the low risk, high reward prospect of Puljujarvi. Only reason I don't move down if I'm them is if either Cozens or Podkolzin are still on the board (assuming Hughes and Kakko get taken 1 & 2 like they should be).

As a Rangers fan I’d do it. I love Byram but our LD prospect pool is super deep...

I think MTL likes Mete with Weber.. they just work together. I think a top 4 to play with Petry is ideal. Maybe one of those guys + 2nd round pick? I can see something like that happening.

yeah but he's not a top pairing D. imo he would better be suited playing against the 2nd line or 3rd with petry

Armia 4 years 2.5M. Move Armia on the 3rd line, Byron move to the RW on the 4th line & sign Kenny Agostino 1 year deal 1M. He did great with MTL & NJ. Better than Peca Deslauriers Hudon

Overall good ideas . I don't think the oilers bites on the trade tho . Duchene seem a natural fit to me in Mtl . Trade Drouin to EDM seem to be a good idea as well . Against a 1st 2020 protected and a 2nd ? I love the trade , i think the money figure is too high on Armia and Lekhonen to make it fit under the cap .

I don’t think that anymore. He was a force with Weber for most of the season, driving play towards the offensive zone and tremendously improving his D play. He is going to work on his shot with a great trainer this summer and I think they’ll keep him with Weber as he balances his weakness.
