I wonder if this scenario would happen, if the Blackhawks could trade up to the number 2 overall pick to get Hughes. New York likes to draft Russians, and Podkolzin would be an interesting addition to their prospect pool.

The trade I think could go like this,

Chicago Blackhawks
2nd overall pick

New York Rangers
Kahun
2020 2nd round pick
John Hayden
3rd overall pick

It most likely won't happen. There's a huge gap in terms of value between the 2nd and 3rd overall pick. (Just like the 2016 NHL draft with the 1st and 2nd pick having way way more value than the 3rd)

I don’t see Rangers doing this since Kakko is supposed to be elite. Podkolzin I do think is over-rated can be a good player but not what Kakko or Hughes can be.

Last time a top 3 pick was traded after the reveal of the final drafting position, this happened.....
1) Ottawa trades Alexei Yashin for 2nd overall pick turned Jason Spezza AND Zdeno Chara --> (this kind got them back in the Duchene trade lol)
2) Canucks making a bunch of trade to draft the Sedin twins at 2nd and 3rd overall pick

If you think he'll bust, why bother trading up for him?

No he does not. Hughes is 1 overall and it’s not that close. They just need stuff to write about for summer hype/coverage.
