Marnerrrrrrrrr

Created by: Will
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 26, 2019
Published: Apr. 26, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think there is a very decent chance Marner is traded / lost through an offer sheet. He deserves above $10m, and don't think it would be wise for the Leafs to have 3 $10m players.

"He deserves over 10 million"
No he doesn't. He might get it, but he certainly doesn't deserve it.

Unless he really really wants to be in Toronto, the Leafs are either going to pay him $10 million plus or might as well trade him and get what you can for him.

Kuch starts a new 9.5M contract next season. I don't think Marner is as valuable as Kucherov.

Any other GM in the NHL would have got Nylander signed for 6ish million and Matthews signed for under 11 million, so the problem is Dubas real name is Dumass. Rumor was Marner asked for Draisaitl money last summer and Dubas toke too much time mulling the offer over. Now Marner's asking price is Eichel style money and Dumass will give him that + extra. This GM needs to go before Babcock, at least Babs asked for Mcelhinney but Dumass stiffed him with Sparks and we all saw how that ended, every fan predicted that outcome.

Kuch also plays in a state with no income tax so add to the $9.5 if you want Marner.

NHL guys who spend more time studying charts/graphs/stats/corsi tend to know less about hockey not more. So by definition this is Dubas and that's why he gets raped in contract signing. Now tell me, who here predicted Lou Lam's Isles to even make the playoffs last summer? who even suggested they'll make it farther into the playoffs than Dubas Leafs? And Lou Lam has a much better salary cap situation in NY than what that book nerd Dubas has achieved in Toronto (and please don't bring up Lou signing Marleau and Zaitsev (not as bad as people over reacted to them, the Leafs needed a respected NHL veteran to lead the rookies and as we talked about, it's really hard to find a RHD so Z was a good risk to take), the good he did out weighs the bad (Reilly, Andersen, Kadri, Hyman, Rosen and drafting Nylander and Marner plus he hired Babcock and set the team to fail to draft Matthews).

Marner plays in a country where his dollar is worth 26% more, so remember to factor that in.

That still doesn’t cover the taxes he pays. He is getting $10.5 or more and dems the facts.

Okay. 10.5 or more? On what term?

Or 3 years under 9

I say if he gets 10.5 it will be for the same as Matthews 5 years. If he gets 11+ you might get him for the full 8. If the Leafs won’t pay the $10.5 you will be forced to match at a price they don’t want. If something isn’t done by July 1, he could be on the move. Not worth risking a team that will be making the playoffs for the next 4 offer-sheets him.

Alright. See you in 2 months or so.
Just a note, I added another option to my side:
6@<10.5
3@<9

You have (if I am reading correctly)
8@11
5@10.5+

to be fair earning 11 million in Toronto is worth less than 9.5 in Tampa because of taxes (Kuch will still have more money post taxes)

I don't think that fair at all. You're looking at personal tax rates, are they that meaningful?

I bet it's pretty meaningful to Mitch Marner, you're talking about over a million dollar's a year cash after tax out of HIS pocket

I wonder players will earn on their first RDA who may have had better years than Marner such as Aho, Raantan, Point will get if folks truly think Marner is entitled to 11m?

Shouldn't Marner's contract (and all players) be compared to players league wide and not just compared to Matthews?

Do you think personal tax rates have that much meaning on what players actually play in taxes?

Yeah i didn't think about that

9.5 mil USD is worth about 13 mil in Canadian moose coins .....(wait what is your currency again?)

either way, fair point
