Those are really bad contracts. Hörnqvist has value but he is 33 and his contract runs for ever. Maatta has value but his contract is too rich and runs for 3 years. I think the Penguins may need to count their 2 cups and start a rebuild or try to move the cap anchors with picks.

Gudbranson had a good looking 19 games but he's probably going to regress back to the player he's been for his previous ~450 games. And at $4M, for your 3rd RD, you could easily slot Chad Ruhwedel in there and get good results.

Yeah, the fact that Hornqvist & Maatta both have value is why this deal works. Any team who gives up a 7th for these 4 can turn around and trade all of them for better pieces except for Jack Johnson who they'd need to either buyout or bury in the minors.
