Of course they will have to make sacrifices if they hugely overpay johnsson and marner. Dear god why would you think marner would make anywhere near that on that term.

We could get so much more for kapanen

His agent and family have said he wants the exact same as Matthews

And hes not worth anywhere near that. I could say I'm worth 30 million dollars a year but I'm not getting that either. It's his agents job to start high

Alright well if the leafs don't think he's worth $11 mil I'm sure the Hurricanes would be happy to offer him $13 mil, he's a franchise player. I'm not guaranteeing he will I'm just saying it isn't a doomsday scenario if he does. The leafs just have to give up either Johnnson, Kadri, or Kapanen.

Hes not a franchise player though. He is elite. There are 4 teams that have the cap space to be paying marner over 10 million and none of them have the money to do that. No team would give up four unprotected 1st round picks anyways.

If someone offered 4 1st picks for Matthews I'd say yes. But no for Marner.

If the Hurricanes do that, the Leafs take the 4 firsts gladly.

Just b/c they want it doesn't mean they'll get it, and certainly doesn't mean he's worth it. He won't make more than 10.5, I don't even see him getting 8 figures. 9.75x6 is what I think it'll be around.

Philly takes Zatisev why exactly? We’re a season away from removing our own version in MacDonald. Zero chance we do this. Especially without a major sweetener attached. If we target a RD it’s going to be a guy to play top pair with Provorov.

So??? Does that really matter? I'm sure Johnsson WANTS the same as Tavares. So the Leafs give him 11m ?

You kidding aren't you? Canes have Aho to be resigned. He has identical stats as Marner for the past two years. So your theory of paying everyone the same. Aho gets 13m too, the same as Marner. Other teams have no motivation to overpay for any player, why do you think Marner gets the special "pay too much " treatment.

I'm not so sure. The "more" will involve either a higher cap hit or a draft pick that is of no use to us at RhD this year. The best we could hope for is a second-round pick, which is close to ours and way at the back.

I’ll take all 799 of the games he does. There was no argument who was better before JT got here... why not centre marner between two rookies and see how he fairs.. will he be the best 5v5 goal scorer in the league? No. I love Marner, I think he’s a great player and a great person. He is no mathews though.

And marner benefited so much from tavares. Tavares beat his career high by 4 points, Marner did the same by 26 points. If matthews plays a full season with nylander he will lead the team in goals and nylander will easily get 65+ points. Marner is very good but hes a step below matthews
