I like the deal, just maybe not for Washington specifically.

Money is good, term not so much.

If you don't give him the 4th year maybe you can't sign him. Take that into consideration

This looks like MacLellan replacing pending UFA Connolly with Hagelin in an effort to get better defensively. He's already made another move in that realm with the Niskanen/Gudas swap. Washington was pretty poor defensively last season, so good for MacLellan for recognizing that and making moves to address it.

Good deal. Hagelin was huge down the stretch for the Caps play, a puck moving sound defensive forward with great speed. Without him, we wouldn't have had the March we had. And if we didn't have the March we had, we may have been a lowly wild card team. Who knows, might not even have made the playoffs. They had just come off a 7 game losing streak in Feb.

Anyway, everyone is complaining about the length, but seem to forget that GMBM is magical in making term disappear. Look at what he literally just did with Niskanen, he got arguably a better player for half of the AAV. And shed what? 9 million in cap the next two years to do it?

Getting rid of Hagelin's measly 2.7 million in the 4th year will be easy peasy for this GM. Not worried in the slightest about the term.

Hagelin had a knee injury this year, and was traded twice. Having him from the start of training camp is going to let his offensive game improve with us and still providing the great defense and penalty killing that he's had for us. While four years may be longer than what's ideal, I'm still happy to have him back right now.

I'm gonna have to say yes, good signing. He played really well for the Caps.

What's wrong with the fourth year? I don't think it's that much of a concern with the low-ish cap hit here.
