Spurgeon to Toronto

Created by: TanSor
Team: 2019-20 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2019
Published: Jun. 30, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Probably unrealistic, since I doubt Dubas trades Nylander, but this is what I feel would be a fair trade for Spurgeon from the Leafs. I'm prepared to be shredded by Leafs fans...

While I love the player, I don't think it's a smart move. We need a rebuild desperately... Hopefully he can be a mentor to guys like Fiala, Donato, Kunin, etc.

Interesting that you have him at center.

Im surprised you would want to go for him rather than a natural center in Kadri and maybe add a winger or something.

I've followed him quite a bit since I love watching him and I've always been more impressed with him at center than on the wing. Seems like he plays more naturally there. He's also really underrated on the faceoff dot.

As @Trickster mentioned, highly unlikely Nylander is traded this summer or even during the season just because his value is low based on last season.

More likely traded next summer to fill needs.
The thing Wild fans are going to have to reconcile is what they want vs what the owner wants.

Trust me, been there, done that, got the t-shirt frown

Yep I said that in my description! Exactly, I just think Spurgeon isn't going to like what he hears when he sits down with Fenton to discuss his plan for the team going forward and we'll be forced to trade him...

I was thinking that if the Leafs do not qualify Ceci, that would mean the Leafs do not have a single (regular rotation) RHD.
Still interested in trading Spurgeon? For Kadri+ picks?
Not sure Leafs want to move the forwards they just signed and so really it just leaves the only asset to move.

I think Kadri as a C makes sense to the Wild, what are we getting back though is the question

Not really, I like Kadri's skill and all, but we really need that right shot forward... even if the value would be fair. We're stocked full with 2nd line centers, we need that true #1 or a guy that could be a true #1 in addition to a right shot forward (ideally it's just a right shot 1C). That's why Nylander makes so much sense for us as a trade target, but yeah I don't think the Leafs trade him this summer.

There shouldn't be expectation of the fathom "sign and trade". Leafs may not have money for Spurgeon and then we get in the silly situation where Minni tells Spurgeon he isn't wanted, try to make a deal with the Leafs and if you can't make a deal you're welcomed back to the Wild. See why I think these sign and trades are so unpractical. If the Leaf likse Greenway so much they just might make the deal with one year of Spurgeon. and Greenway to help with their cap relief this year. (maybe 50%)

Fortunately Spurgeon is already planning on meeting with our owner to see if he even wants to re-sign with us, so the premise for this was that meeting did not go well and Spurgeon doesn't want to re-sign here, but he would be willing to accept a sign-and-trade to Toronto (although I foolishly didn't include that in my description). So we wouldn't have that awkward situation where MN tells Spurgeon to meet with the Leafs since we don't want him, because we do. But you're right, Toronto has their own cap to worry about, although I'd argue that trading Marleau and the rumored Zaitsev deal is more than enough space to sign Marner this year and then have Spurgeon sign an extension next year.

It kinda depends on how much $$$ Spurgeon is looking for.
