Weird rule in the CBA, they can't trade him for upto a year after they match the offersheet. Nice thinking though, I had the same idea

Also try trading Faulk for Hoffman, it may work better for ypu because Pysyk is a HORRIFICALLY bad player

Yes and for very good reason. However the canes can offer a trade rather than taking the compensation if Montreal agreed. This trade unfortunately is much richer than the compensation.

They can make a trade that will be a one-sided trade.

the executives are laughing about it as we speak, Carolina will be in a position of strength with Aho trying to move him out when the time comes.

the only trade i see between MTL and CAR now if it happen. is MTL overpaying for a AHL guy for example for the canes to not match the offersheet

Or that is maybe a front. I can certainly tell you one thing. This will be a hard pill to swallow financially for the canes. Laughing they certainly are not. I do hope they match Aho but I can’t help but think that by signing such a front loaded deal that he wanted out. Which was another thing Carolina media got wrong.

Interesting idea for when you can trade him, but you'd need Danault, Poehling, or Kotkanemi coming back or else Carolina's center core looks atrocious.
Montreal's offer really made no sense if they had any intention of actually getting the player. They probably should have bumped it up into at least the next tier of compensation by going with a longer term (6 x $8.75M with it really front loaded). $8.454M for Aho is great value considering Mathews' deal.

That was my point. Aho obviously would rather play for MTL than CAR so a trade makes sense. The offer sheet compensation is just not enough to make it worth losing him.

I liked Poehling + offersheet compensation, but i figured CAR would want players to help now since they seem to be competative

I see what you’re saying. Carolina calls Montreal and says listen we are going to match, if you want Aho we will trade for this....

    I could see that working.

Kool Aid man strikes again. Lol. This is the worst possible contract Aho could have been given for Canes Between the signing bonuses, the term, and the AAV that does not give them fair compensation if the decline. Management is cringing. They match cuz they have no choice, but they are pissed.

Management are laughing, they get Aho at a discount from what he wanted. The signing bonuses are not an issue, you are over your head thinking it is. The term is the only issue for Carolina. The AAV is fine because it's mainly signing bonuses which again isn't an issue.

MTL made the offer sheet because they have a lot of grade a prospect but they will not include them in a trade that's why they use offer sheet but yes you deserve a bigger compensation then just 3 draft pick .
1-2 grade b prospect and a draft pick for a AHL guy that is what i have in mind but if you ask for grade a prospect we will leave it to the offer sheet

    MTL grade a prospect
    1-Suzuki 2-Poehling 3-Romanov 4- Caufield 5- Brook

if you ask for one of them forget it , that's the offer sheet yes or no

but we can include 1-2 of our former second round prospect Ikonen , olofsson, ylonen a few other that have some value 2017-2018 second round with good progression and other draft pickor current NHL like Tatar we made a deal in your favor but no grade a prospect

Sara is the most reliable reporter when it comes to the canes unfortunately. She's trustworthy, and she's saying that from Waddells interview yesterday. Would you like a link to that to see for yourself?

I didn't see the edit, my mistake. If nothing happens, okay, we still have 3 1st round picks this year, we'll have 3 2nd rounders too (Fox will play 30 games for NYR) and 2 3rd rounders. We can trade up in the draft for someone like Laf. It's not a huge deal. Really, we'll be fine either way. We either get Aho, or we're gonna have a LOT of drafting to do, which they tend to do well. Carolina remain in a great position, and although it's not an optimum return for Aho, it's still a good position for us. Also, if she doesn't tweet anything, they'll maybe wait. Waddell did say yesterday he'll take his time to sign it.
