I think he would. 2m over market value and 600k more than what the leafs are offering on a 8 year deal.

No he doesn’t but that’s not why he signs the offersheet. It’s a negotiation tactic. I think he might not sign it and just shield it dubas and say match this.

If Montreal sent him a 12m 7 year sheet and he signs it... then he wants to play for the Habs.

i doubt mtl goes over the two 1st rd picks threshold. if hes a center, they MIGHT, but 4 1st rd picks is not an easy giveaway

Why would Montreal do it? With bonus over the cap, and Domi and other RFAs to sign next year. Montreal really doesn't have the cap.
I figure Marner would sign for the Leafs for less than most other teams...including Montreal.
No one really knows what the Leafs are offering or certainly what the Leaf final price they walk away from on an offer sheet.

Leafs match anything that doesn't involve 4 first rounders coming back in my opinion. They can be 10% over cap in offseason, and Hyman is missing time, the leafs have until November to shed 700k to make this work.

With that being said, its more than he's worth.

You’re right.... he can’t play centre...

And for good measure I know he will get more than Aho... I’m just talking about fair market value.

He’s every bit as good as panarin. We’re dangerously close to RFAs coming off their entry kind of being the same value as ufas. Ya, panarin is going to get more because he’s a ufa, but aren’t teams happier to sign a guy until he’s 29 than until he’s 35?

what makes you think were dangerously close to RFA's getting the same value as UFA's? Aho in open market surely gets 11 at least if Panarin gets 12. doesn't add up to me.

Matthews just got 11.6 while only buying out one year of ufa. His 8 year demand was 13.8.
That

while a 21 year old first line centre like Matthews probably gets max AAV as a UFA. 4 mil more than he got.

Don’t think a ufa has ever signed max value. But way to completely ignore my point

Yes... and who has scored more even strength goals than Matthews since he’s joined the league?

I’m sorry to anyone this may offend but I like that Matthews contract. He had a blank cheque. That is a guy who if he were not signed in season would have a 13m+ offersheet thrown at him. A team would give up 4 1sts.

Because there hasn't been a player of that quality, still yet to reach their prime ever hit unrestricted free agency. Im not ignoring your point. Just because RFAs are getting paid more than they used to doesn't mean RFAs and UFAs are close to getting paid the same. The price of both are rising equally fast. If a potentially elite RFA winger gets 10 million dollars a year without max term, then at that time the gap is closing. An exact comparable to Marner, maybe even valued a bit higher just signed for 8.5 x 5. Neither Rantanen or Point will get 10 and they are better than MM. Its just stir created by the media, and people who don't like the leafs are biting and getting excited for the leafs to potentially implode.

Tavares was offered 13m... and he isn’t 21. Most franchise centres aren’t lost in ufa.

Wait are you saying aho is an exact comparable? I think that’s crazy.

The overall point is general managers are trending towards paying their players more in their early to mid 20s, and less in their early 30s
