Description
Laine had a rough year and Winnipeg doesn’t seem to want to pay him. Caps give them a young, potential 30 goal scorer who will be cheaper than Laine plus a much needed top 4 dman who is locked up for a good term. Throw in a 3rd rounder to sweeten the deal.

Calgary is in need of a legit number 1 goalie (no it’s not the only thing holding them back but it will certainly help). Holtby is from Calgary and signs for 8 years to finish his career. Since Calgary has Holtby, Rittich is no longer needed and is a even swap for Eller. They need a top 9 gritty forward who has the experience of a deep playoff run. Bonus that he plays Center and plays on the PK. So now it’s pretty much Valimaki, a 1st and 3rd for 9 years of Holtby.

RFA swap with the Blues to get Barbashev to play 3C. Caps may have to throw in a late round pick.

Caps sign Laine to a bridge deal and sign Rittich and Barbashev to 2 year deals. Samsanov should be NHL ready next year so Rittich can be taken by Seattle or traded.

Sign Boyle and Hutton to 1 year deals to round out the team.

Over 9 million in cap space for Backstrom. He will probably sign for 5 or 6 years for 8 million.

In 2 years Caps will still have plenty of money for Ovi. I don’t see him signing for much more than what he is making now at 35 years old. Probably a 3 year deal between 8-9.5 as long as he’s still putting up 35+ goals.

@Sicarius @BluesBandit @Chopper02 @rja40 @BluesGetTheCup @mokumboi my fellow Blues fans....I have no clue what to think of this. I know we don't need Djoos, and don't know if I really like Stephenson, but if a prospect was in the deal instead would it work???

Not enough for Laine. Also where did you get the sense that we don't want to pay Laine?

Think it’s pretty close for Laine. Vrana’s first full year and he had 3 less points than Laine. Maybe a 2nd instead of a 3rd but that would be it

Stephenson seem to me like a Barbashev of two years ago, although I'd argue that Stephenson has better wheels that Barby. Barbashev's game has grown both years since his rookie year, so the trade-off goes something like this:

Do you trade a "potential Barbashev" for the real one who has already established himself as a good 4th line center/part-time LWer? The gamble would be losing a known quantity for an unknown quantity. In my opinion, Sunqvist can fill 4th line center role extremely well, but he showed us this year that he looks like he might be a pretty good 3rd line center too. Barbashev allows Sunny to play more minutes, whereas if we moved Sunny into 4th line center spot, minutes are taken away from him. As much as I like Barby, and as much as his game has grown in the past two years, I don't see him as much more than a replacement level player on the ice. However, no one outside of the locker room knows what he brings off the ice, which as this past year showed, is much more important than the press it garners. Add to that, Stephenson might be a flop, so now we would have to find a replacement. That's the gamble. Djoos to me is a nice player, but he seems thus far in his career to be a Vince Dunn-light. The Blues thrive on a big, heavy defensive game, and putting both Djoos and Dunn as two of your three LHD screams Dallas Stars defense - lots of offense and little to no defense.

Djoos in for Bouwmeester.

Dunn-Pietrangelo
Djoos-Parayko
Gunnarsson-Reinke/Bortuzzo

Solid but lots of offense in that...

Depends what we'd get on the Eddy trade that followed. Heh. As is, I just see no reason to deal Barby.

It's an unnecessary trade for the Blues in my opinion. If Alexeyev was involved then I would be more apt to say yes to this trade.

Siegenthaler is definitely more NHL ready. My number onr defensive prospect to target would be Hague if that's the Blues would go for but I like Alexeyev.
