laugh Marner isn't signing that low, And what makes you think he still wont sign an OS. Players can be offer sheet right up to just before training camp. So still a long ways to go.

Maybe he’s just holding out for a team jacket, that he was promised like Gordie Howe, I just hope he knows what he wants, and is just letting his management team run its course til he takes over himself. Just imagine if he ends up somewhere he doesn’t want to be, have a bad year and wonder why he fought for more dough over a known stability of his hometown

Marner wants to play in Toronto. Marner also wants to get paid Matthews money. Both of those things can't happen if he signs an offer sheet since Toronto will take the 1sts and run if he does. Therefore, Marner won't sign an offer sheet.

My guess is that he sits out the season before he takes less than 8-figures.

There really is some fascinating stuff playing out with all of this. And very little of it seems to be in Mitch's best interests.

My guess is the Leafs will trade his rights if it gets to that point. I am not a Leaf fan anymore (lost that in the Ballard years).
It was reported that both the Isles and Jackets discussed an offer, nothing came about. I think Marner was scared the Leafs wouldn't match. The longer it drags on the worse it gets for Marner.
Leafs still have to run their team

Well, then it's time to come back into the fold, Chips and beer. The Ballard years, as dark as they were, are long gone.

I don't know if they trade his rights.. they don't want to lose him, and they just might let him sit in order to keep him. Seems like Dubas was close to exercising that option with Nylander

Grew up in the Maritimes and was a Leaf fan as a kid, once a year my dad would take my brother and I to Maple Leaf Gardens. I was there the night Sittler scored his 10. Losing McDonald, Sittler and Salming to a kid who idolized them killed it for me.
In Vegas now, blown away by what the Knights have been able to do.

I can't see Dubas letting this drag on like Nylander fiasco, they would rather moved on and have certainty on what kind of team they want to ice

Marner makes Nylander look like a kitten... daddy dearest and the chip on his shoulder could ruin his son's dream.

From the Maritimes to Vegas!? That's a heck of a trip.

Spent a fair amount of time in Atlantic Canada and your story about going to the Gardens is something that's a tradition out east. The Gardens or the Forum, but lots of families did/do the annual trip. It's good stuff.
