Jets Oilers trade

Description
Jets trade: WPG clears over 5M to sign Laine & Connor this year and Morissey next year. Alzner can replace Chiarot's PK duties + replace Kulikov on a 3rd pair. WPG has a big need for speed on left defense - so Mete, 2nd , Olofsson + 5M for Ehlers is very fair imo after the season + playoffs Ehlers had.

For Mtl: They're giving up cap space this year for cap space in the future by unloading Alzners contract. Their D takes a hit but they're banking on Drouin + Ehlers rekindling their Halifax magic and both taking the next step by playing together. Kulikov is absolute trash but he's a 1-year cap dump and should be ''ok'' as a 6th/7th D rotating in and out.

Oilers trade: Hudon had 30 points in 72 games just last year playing only 13 min/game. This year for whatever reason Julien doghoused him and didn't play him all year.. Hudon is a guy who is legitimately underrated and at only 800K he's exactly the type of cheap, but productive winger EDM needs. If he plays with McDavid, Nuge or Draistail.. he could easily replicate his 35 point pace if not surpass it. Reilly is PMD depth to replace Sekera and in case the kids falter or struggle. He's a serviceable bottom pairing D.

For Mtl: Poolparty looks like a legitimate bust at this point... barely producing in the AHL last year but he doesn't require waivers which Hudon and Reilly do - so he buys them extra time and instead of not playing or losing those 2 for free.. might as well get something back and hope Poolparty can figure it out at some point and become a consistent 35-40 point producer at some point. Perhaps having 3 Finnish teammates will help him? I'm really not high on Puljujarvi but I think the acquisition cost here is worth the gamble.

Yeah WPG says no thank you. I’d rather keep ehlers and have kulikov come off the book next offseason.

This is bad for WPG. They take on a bad contract with term and give up a bad contract that comes off next summer.

This trade ends up being mete + 2nd for ehlers and jets decline that so fast.

why would the jets swap alzner and kulikov? similar cap hits kulikov has 1 year left on his deal. unless montreal overpays to get rid of alzner i dont think he gets moved without showing he can still play. Mete and a 2nd plus a former 2nd isnt enough for ehlers.

If Montreal is sending Karl Alzner to Winnipeg then there's got to be some money retained and some more value in this case. Alzner still has term while Kulikov has only a single year remaining.

The cost of moving Alzner for nothing is probably Mete and a 2nd. Let alone getting Ehlers......

By the way hudon as more point in fewer game than puljujarvi and he did mostly playing on a third and fourth line. No mcdavid or draisaitl. So actually you would have a nice players in charles hudon. He will end up on the trade market by the end of training camp
Oilers should offer Montreal a 5th round selection. He could surely gave edmonton help on wings

No thank you, we need a top 6 winger, Hudon is certainly not that. We have tons of 3rd and 4th line players!

Hudon is better them archinald, colby cave, tomas jurco, sygard, sheahan and khaira so maybe you reconsider this. Oilers definitely need help for scoring depth. This is their biggest issue. Mcdavid and draisaitl add more
Than 40% of the goal by the team and if wee add nuggent and Chiasson this number jump to 60 % so its not balanced at all edmonton. Adding a guys like hudon can and surely help them. Hudon as very great offensive skill. He could turn into a 35 point average forward that would be a win for Edmonton. I mean have you look at your roster dude, after the top 6 its really really bad
