The idea’s is good suter is still very efficient on defense. But the retained portion of the salary is way too much and the return is not great for
Minnesota

The value traded is near right, but the retention is far greater than the Wild will ever give. 3.25M for 6 years... that'll never happen. Retain about .75M max.

Weber must smile every time he's see Suter. Years ago UFA Suter was leaving Nashville to sign with Minni. Then Flyers offer sheet Weber to that heavily front loaded contract. Nashville who in there eyes couldn't afford to lose both of their top Dmen, matched the offer sheet.

i think it would make more sense for MIN to not retain and just take Alzner's last 3 years instead .
his buyout is just under 4/4.6m cap next year 1.6/4.6m and 2 years of 800k/4.6m cap
MTL can cross that bridge when Suters cap becomes an issue but honestly Weber/Suter teaching our youth allows us to move Petry for a decent value . Weber can guide Romanov , Suter guide Brook, Chiarot guide Fleury and Suter-Weber can dominate the Power Play once again

Suter will never waive, he’s going straight from a Wild jersey to their front office.

And Wild decline that anyway. No way they are retaining that much for that long even if they could/would trade him.

The people saying the value is about right are completely ignoring Suter is still an effective top pairing guy, so the Wild wouldn't want to trade him even if he was willing to waive his NMC. His contract has a chance of getting ugly if he ends up being a $7.5m third pairing guy, but it also has a chance of him ending up on LTIR and not being an issue or being $1m real cash for a $7.5m cap hit to help a budget team hit the floor if he's done playing. There's no reason for the Wild to retain any money or get back a bunch of pieces as a return.

No way in hell would Ryan Suter ever waive his NMC for Montreal, He chose Minnesota for a reason. His Wife is from there plus close to his home there in Wisconsin. It was reported awhile back that he doesn't want to play in Canada period. And no way Minnesota would eat that much for 6 more years or so. And that garbage doesn't get him any ways.
