Yo dawg if you could learn to read youll see that not only am I not a NJ fan, I said the 1st would only come if he resigned. Also, Hall is a season out from being the MVP. That along with his contract is pretty good value AND the consensus in the hockey community was that Dorion was fleeced by McPhee and shouldve gotten more as he immediately signed a contract there, along with the fact that Erik Brannstrom is a MUCH more highly regarded prospect than Poulin.. So yeah, I would say Poulin + a lower level prospect is a fair value for a rental former MVP and a 1st conditional on him re-signing is pretty fair to me. Learn the context before calling people idiots, ya idiot.
Fleeced? And you don't think NJ is going to have to deal with the same issues?
Lets tear this down piece by piece. Stone resigned...so there goes the need to supply more if he resigns as that is the comparable.
B. NJ is in no better shape than Ottawa. A player out the door, wants something, and has no leverage as the only teams willing to give something up are playoff teams and they aren't giving up a ton. Because who else is going to do it. No one! As is there will only be so many teams looking to add come the playoffs. Some don't think they can really win, others are set at LW, and others aren't going to want to part with the high cost. So lets not act like NJ is in any position to get anything more than Ottawa got for Stone. Ottawa didn't get "fleeced" they got market value!
As for Brannstrom being a better player than Poulin. I'm not sure how you get to that. Brannstrom was a 15oa who was drafted ahead of grade because he plays defense and there is always a run on defense.
He's a 5'9 defense men. Good luck with that as being some prize. You look way to much into Ottawa spin on him as being some great prize return. He wasn't. He's suppose to be an offensive defense men as he's not really big enough to be a net guy stay at home defender, and he's got 1 assist in 15 games. Wow! clearly a better player.
You should maybe wait till Poulin actually plays a few games at the NHL level before declaring one better than the other. At least Poulin has the size to play at the NHL level. No one is sold that Brannstrom does. His start at the NHL so far has been shaky at best.
A 1st and a low grad prospect. Even with Hall signing an extension is what the market will be for him. No team is going to give up 2 1sts. Nor are they going to tear their roster up.
I don't care if he was a former MVP. He spent most of last year on IR, and this year in 16 games he's got 2 goals. None of that says, pay the world for me. Stone had 28 goals in 59 games before he was traded, and he wasn't able to land what you are asking because no one is willing to pay all that to a team with 0 leverage
