Kerfoot

Created by: TaDomi
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 20, 2019
Published: Dec. 20, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Why not trade Kerfoot, instead of kapanen and johnsson?

Kerfoot + Liljegren for Seversson
Ceci + 2nd for Simmonds
Hutch + Bracco for Domingue

By the time this trade has taken place they will likely have enough room to call up sandin and give him more of a chance, if an injury occurs.

Don't retain on Dominigue, retain on Severson like 2080000 or something (2 083 333 is the max)

Center is the most important position on the ice not including goaltenders. Having engvall as your 3c isnt good at all, if you have him as a 3rd line winger it isnt the end of the world. You want the most center depth possible, just think what would happen if one of matter or JT gets injured.

Ideally you want wingers who CAN play centre, not wingers playing centre

Imo only significant peice we are giving up is liljegren, but getting 3.5 years of severson might be worth it?

Engvall played centre in the AHL, give him a chance. We also have spezza.

The matthews, nylander and johnsson line is a top 5 line in the league. If they had to trade someone it would probably be johnsson because what he brings can be easily replaced

You asked if one of Matthews or Tavares got hurt who would play centre? Nylander can play centre, than move one of moore, soup, kapanen up to play wing.
Never talked about trading Matthew's?

William Nylander
Alex DeBrincat (actually a centre but can't play centre due to congestion)

Give him a chance? sure. Trade away the best alternative if he fails? no.

You know what is funny, I would normally agree with you but engvall has been superb both ways. He would make a perfect 3c. I fon’t Think now is the time to thrust him into it though.

Yeah, I hate the Devils trade as Leaf fan. But if it went through, it shows the Leafs are "going for it". So as you suggest not a good time to start experimenting Engvall at centre.

Why is it that the Leafs (and almost exclusively the Leafs) want all these Devils?

I've liked engvall a lot as well. I'm pretty sure hes been a winger so far with the leafs and if they were to trade kerfoot I would want to make sure he can play in that role. I'm a lot higher on kerfoot then some people so I might be biased but I think engvall can be a fine 3c, I just think that kerfoot can be a very good 3c.

Honey the way everyone's been playing I think kappy should be moved if they absolutely have to. The mikheyev-kerfoot-engvall line has been spectacular and that is where kappy should slot in. To get the most out of him he has to be 3rw bit if engvall is there he has no where to go. I really like johnsson with AM and WN so they should probably keep him but it all really depends on keeping mikheyev. If they can keep mikheyev then one of johnsson or kapanen should be moved but if they cant then it would be kerfoot, i just want to see engvall perform as 3c in a decent sample size.

I dont like the proposed trade at all but I do really like the options the leafs have. Assuming they keep hyman and johnsson on the top two lines they have a ton of options to fill in the bottom 6. Moore, mikheyev, kerfoot, kapanen, engvall, timashov, petan, korshkov, marchment (who I love) and bracco (to an extent) are all viable bottom 6 forwards. That doesnt even include gauthier, spezza, brooks, agostino, aberg and wilson who are capable 4th liners
