This montreal trade is terrible. Suzuki alone is worth more then saad contract and gustafson terrible defensive play. You won’t last long as a gm with trade proposal like that. This is absolutely outrageous!

Suzuki is worth more then Saad? You sure? I agree the trade is terrible here but your response is bit off too.

That Toronto trade is off...remove Caggs. Keep in mind Kap costs more then 3x what Kubalik does but Kubalik produces as well or better.

Montreal wouldn't trade Suzuki for Saad + Gustafsson.

Yes suzuki is worth more the saad. Both have 19 point this year but one is 20 years old and the other is 27. Saad is a good players but it make absolutely no sense to trade a rookie who is having a very good start for a aging players. This is not even close.

Saad has 11 goals to Suzuki's 7 in 1 less game. Furhermore, Saad is a 2 way power forward and defensive winger first, scoring winger a distant second. He drives the puck in both ends of the ice and it's not close to comparing Suzuki who is a offensive and more dynamic but not known for defensive play. Based on ice play as of today, Saad is the better player and it's not close; it a team had 1 shot this year and needed to add a top 6 forward, without question they would add Saad.

That said, I get Suzuki is 20 years old and has upside and respect that side of it. I also get he's a lot cheaper. Just need to contextualize the comparison as the reason Suzuki is more valueable is purely due to his age and contract not because he's actually better then Saad today.

And if you read carefully it never was mentioned that suzuki was better today but that value wise he as way more value then saad. And actually suzuki is a two way player, very responsible defensively. The biggest difference is saad as a physical edge to is game something that suzuki don’t have. Saad would be a nice addition to any contending team.

I get your point but feel you haven't painted the most accurate picture of Suzuki. He has no issues in his own end as evidenced in the fact that Julien has used him on the PK at times this season. His ice time also shows how much the coach trusts him at both ends of the ice since Julien is pretty old school and prefers playing his 4th liners over players who don't defend well (Drouin last season and Galchenyuk before that).

Maybe Saad is slightly better today, but I don't believe the difference is very large.

I didn't say Suzuki has no defense but he's not known for it the way Saad is defensively. Take a look at the takeaways and the difference is clear; Saad 28 Suzuki 15, they both have 17 giveaways. Saad is clearly better today if you look at more advanced stats; just goals alone, Saad has 5 more in 1 less game and Saad is not known as a goal scorer...never has been. I get that Suzuki has more upside potential then Saad has ever shown and they aren't that far off, but clearly comparing on ice today, you'd be hard pressed if you had either player for this season only to select Suzuki over Saad.

Saad game is a lot more like armia game then suzuki game. Comparing suzuki to saad is like apple to orange. Suzuki is a puck possession players who have a pass first mentality. Saad is good in forecheck and puck pursuit like armia is, he create lots of is scoring chance by take away the puck from is opponents. In offensive zone he try finds open space around the nets.
