idk if you realize this but teams don't have to retain salary to help out the Leafs. The Saad retention makes some sense since you would be giving up a 1st rounder but what are you giving as a incentive for the Devils to retain some of Subban's contract? I don't see enough there.

Retention is a wonderful way for team with out major contracts who have no reason to sign a major contract get to the cap floor, if it makes you feel better add a 2021 2nd

I love posting Subban trades , leaf fans lose their minds. Guys had a terrible 40 games on a terrible team out of 600 played, Subban washed up is nonsense and no Ceci is definitely not better or even close to equal

Retaining the other 65% of his contract and actually having to put him on our roaster is payment enough.

40 games? Ugggh Nashville couldn’t get rid of him fast enough. And yeah... ceci is better.

They have 4 signed and another RFA. Sandin is already ready to play in the NHL and Liljegren will be on the team next year. Dermott will sign as well so they need 1 player. Settle down on the over reactions.

Teams retain to increase their return. Saad isn't worth the package above unless he has some big retention. Even then I don't think I'd make that trade because a 1st is too much for Saad.

Two of most horrid trades the Leafs could make. Subban is a negative now and in the future. Leafs don't need Subban so he can sit with Drake at Raptors game. And Saad? He's Johnsson with less term and someone wants to give up a 1st also?

Do you want this current edition of Subban even for 6m on your team ? His value is closer to 6m....2m a year for three years.
The Saad trade makes no sense at all for the Leafs. Johnsson and Saad are about equal on the ice. Johnsson has more term and this post has the Leafs giving a first rounder. If anything the Hawks would be adding the pick.

That's more then enough for Subban, the Devils should be happy to recoup assets and move him even with the retention if this trade was actually real, the guy is overrated and his best days are so far behind him.

If the Hawks got a 1st for Ryan Hartman at the deadline then they for sure can get a 1st for Saad. If the Leafs didn't want to pay that then I would say pass and move on to other interested teams.

No the Hawks wouldn't be adding a pick and retaining that salary. The Hawks would be sellers here and sellers don't throw picks back the other way just because Leafs fans overvalue all of their players. Maybe I can understand if this is a mid season trade but IMO the Hawks don't make a deal like this until the TDL where there is a Buyers market and prices go up.

TO just doesn't have the cap space for Saad.

They also don't have a 1st this draft so I would move on from them in general.
