2nd round pick.... thats it? A 2 time cup winning goalie who is an rfa and wont be demanding too much money traded for..... a second round pick. Oof. If you are gonna trade him at least trade him and get something in return that actually makes the team better now. That second round pick wont do anything for us until its too late and just subtracting murray from this roster makes us worse

I agree with BigZ98 and I'd go further and say you need a good backup goalie. So as long as Murray will sign for the same he is now, which is possible, and we can have both goalies for around 7 million(?) then I'd say we keep both. The only argument to that would be to dump him while his value is high before he becomes a backup or we lose him in the expansion draft

Woof, who ever gives him that will regret it after 3 years. He's a prime buyout candidate 5 years down the line.

Take 2 years off the Hall deal and we can talk. I don't want him till he's 35. That's a cap dump in the making.

He hasn't played like he's worth 11 million this year. At all.

He's a 28yo Hart winning beast that drives possession, is an offensive force, and has always played on bad teams. On any good team he's hitting 100 points regularly.

And, this is most important, there's not an offensemen that's a UFA this summer that's anywhere near his level. He's the bell of the ball and will get what he wants. Go take a look: https://www.capfriendly.com/browse/free-agents/2021/caphit/all/forwards It's all mediocre players then him.

He's not all that and has never been.
Hell you act like he's McDavid carrying the oilers on his back. He's not.
The question you should be asking yourself is how come he didn't elevate his own lines then if he's that great. You got a team in Boston that is 1 line carrying the whole team.
It's not like he was on teams with 0 help. That just isn't true.
And yes he's 28, which means he's past his prime years. You want to pay him till he's 35 like you are getting years when he was 24. No thanks.
No contract on a player should be going past 33. You are just asking to put yourself in cap trouble later. It's best to keep contracts shorter and not pay them for past accomplishments but what they will currently bring to a team.
You are just hooked on a name. If he was that great he'd be tearing it up with AZ where he does have help. But he's not really looking like a Hart winning player there now is he.

He consistently elevated his own lines, no idea what you're talking about. Didn't lead the next Devil by like 40+ points his MVP year. And yeah, he bascially was on teams with zero help. Anyone ever close to him was McDavid for 1 season.

Yeah he's 28 but still amazing. The best comparison is Panarin, very similar players. Which is why he'll get $11M.

O I totally agree with you but that's not how UFA works. You have to overpay to get a player. EVERY team would love to sign players to short, cheap contracts, but it isn't going to happen.

Yeah I'm hooked on a name that has been a beast his whole career on bad teams. And no, he has VERY little help in ARI, very little. They haven't had a point getter higher than 55 points in almost 10 years. Last season their highest point player had 47 points. Before Hall showed up their leading point player was on pace for 53 points. He has such little help offensively.

he has not consistantly elevated his lines. why do you think NJ traded him from practically last place

and why were they in Last place is Hall is a guy who can "elevate his line"

Don't you see how that fits together?
NJ expected a whole lot more out of him this year. They didn't get it.

He's not some team savior that you pay 11 million a year to.

Don't know if you know this, but a team is more than 1 player. No one is a "team savior", you need a whole team to do anything. The best player in the world couldn't carry the Oilers. They made the playoffs ONCE so far in McDavid's 4 year tenure. Is McDavid not worth $11M? Hall is the same level as Panarin in terms of what he brings, he will get $11M or at least not anything close to $8.5M. I'd say lowest in is $10.5M. Guaranteed.

no hall isn't Panarin, he's not close. Period.
    Are you kidding me.
Panarin was a 1 man offense.
You can say a team is "more than one man" but yet you look at the guys getting paid that much money and ask yourself if that's true.
Panarin was the offense on CBJ. McDavid is the offense on EDM, Matthew is the offense on TOR. He elevated everyone around him. Scored up 40+ goals a year.
Where is that with Hall. Non existent.
You are enamored with a name not what he actually brings to the ice.

Hall is a one man offense too lol how do you not see that?! It look at his point outlet on all the bad teams he's been on. He's consistently leading them. Hall elevated every team he was on. Dude is getting $11M this summer.

Hall is not a one man offense, if he was NJ would have done better. Hall is more likely to be injured than be a 1 man offense.

How many times does it have to be said? YOU NEED MORE THAN 1 PLAYER TO MAKE A TEAM GOOD. New Jersey has been garbage for years, you think 1 elite player will fix all of that mess?

really tell that to McDavid. Because he had no help and was still lighting it up.
Of course that's why he got paid 12+
You can keep making excuses. He is always hurt, he has knee issues, and his play this year does not look like that of an 11 million player.

McDavid is also a generational talent that at least had Draisaitl to play off of. Hall has never had anything close to that except literally 1 year of McDavid and Draisitl's as rookies.

What help does he have in ARI?! We've been over this. They've been a garbage team for years and still are, though they are good defensively. Do you want me to go over their lack of offensive skills again?

Yeah barely and only because their division is absolutely horrendous. Doesn't take away they are still a poor offensive team.

But whatever. We won't settle this until July 1st when he signs, which I guarantee will be close to $11M.

ok so they are still a "poor" team offensively and they have Hall. Then how did he "elevate" his lines.
I mean don't you get that. You are in a circular argument with that nonsense. It's always everyone's fault but Hall's because Hall has a name and it couldn't be him.
He's not an 11 million player. No one in their right mind pays him that either.

Panarin when he signed in NY had 4 seasons of production with which to evaluate. Just looking at boxcars, per season he averaged:

29 goal, 51 assists and 80 points. He was 8th highest scorer in the NHL.

For comparison's sake we'll take the same 4 years for Hall (which includes his Hart year), per season he averaged:

24 goals, 38 assists and 62 points. He was 36th highest scorer in the NHL.
