That deal is pretty close. I would want another pick, but if Habs made this trade I wouldn't be mad.

Boston declines, no use for either player and it puts us over the cap.

Habs probably don't need/want Nordstrom, so I would think a deal involving younger prospects would be what's being sought. One of Alexander Alexeyev or Connor McMichael would be more enticing. This year's #1 would likely fall between 26 and 31, which is where those two prospect were drafted.

MTL counters with

Eller,1st , 2nd(condtional if Caps win cup it becomes 2021 1st) and 3rd all in 2020
for
Tatar @3.3 cap with MTL retaining 1.5m
Kovalchuk
Weal (we like Thompson to much and Suzuki's said many times the impact he's having on his season )

MTL could use Eller to guide the youth like KK and Poehling .
After Eller left there's been no one to guide our young Centers instead relying on Weal's and Shaw's to do so .

"Use Eller to guide youth like KK and Poehling" you mean take minutes away from them playing? Danault is a better center and can guide them fine, Eller would literally do nothing for MTL.

You are basically saying that you can get Tatar+ for Hagelin, Panik, 1st (high 20's). Adding the 3rd team is a nice distraction, but this is still a "I started with a paperclip and ended with a telescope!" flea market job.

Was 1st has little value. Habs can get a higher ranked one somewhere else. A good prospect would open the talks.
