I think Staal is an under-rated big game player that will have an huge impact in bringing a cup back to Toronto. Reminds me of the Islander trade to obtain Butch Goring years ago and the postive effect it had on the Islanders in winning a cup.

Right, a new 3C is going to make the difference for the Leafs to win the Cup. Not fixing the defense that will in all likelihood get annihilated by every high powered offense they could possibly face in the playoffs. Right. Anything can happen, but this is absolutely not the move that should be made

For sure Goring seemed to be the spark plug that put the finishing touches on that team...as a Ranger fan- unfortunately remember that too well! But what the Isles seemed to have even before Goring got there was Defense, Goaltending, and a lot of heart.

So you want Staal for a pile of spare parts? Lol, sure. shakes head

2 4th liners, the second coming of Nic Petan, and a 4th. There’s some value. Lol.

The Leafs defence is actually much better than you realize. The only adjustment the Leafs need to make is to have forwards buy into playing stronger defensive game which will happen come playoff time. Eric Staal has the leadership skills to help younger Leafs players as he won a cup in Carolina and played some great hockey for Canada internationally.

Take your Leaf blinders off for a sec Mike. You don't see the failed coverages, the horribly misplayed one-on-ones, the turnovers through the neutral zone, or the failed clearing attempts? I know every team has that to an extent, but it's below average at best in Toronto. A partner for Morgan Rielly is far and away the most pressing need this team has right now, not an upgraded 3C. Your defense is going to be targeted by any opponent you come across, and they will exploit it with dumping the puck towards the ****ty defenseman on the ice, forechecking the hell out of him and forcing a turnover. It will be a mismatch that a 3C won't be able to fix.
