Cirelli Idea

Initial Creation Date: Feb. 12, 2020

Description
OFF SEASON TRADE
Trades
MIN
  1. Cirelli, Anthony
Additional Details:
I realize this is A LOT of retained salary and I realize that Tampa would want to keep this guy BUT they are going to be trapped in complete salary cap hell and I just don't see how they escape, plus a lot of guys have some sort of no-trade clause. They also have no RD under contract at all next season from what I can tell.
TBL
  1. Dumba, Matt ($3,000,000 retained)

Straight up, I'd say Tampa has to throw in at least a 2nd round pick to make it work. With 50% retention, it starts with a first and another asset.

Players like Anthony cirelli are so hard to find/develop, Tampa will do whatever it takes to retain him. They will buy out/trade players in order to keep him.

Why bother trading Dumba for him. Wild could offersheet Cirelli right out of Bolts price range and then give up a roughly 2021 1st and 3rd.
Wild could easily get a 2021 1st and 3rd plus for Dumba.
I have a similar idea going to get Dylan Strome from Chicago, but the Chicago guys assure me salary cap won't be a problem.

Problem is everyone they can move to free up space has a 20+ team no trade list. Gonna be tough. He's getting offer sheeted for sure.

TBL says no...mo...fo
Dumba is a "Shattenkirk" clone so to speak for TBL and Cirelli has shown multiple times this year that he stirs the Tampa drink like Tkachuk in Cal does...

Maybe trade Dumba for a 1st and a player, trade that first and a third and a guy like Belpedio to Tampa for Cirelli so they get a little more than an offer sheet would give them?

Okay so fill out their roster and keep Cirelli and compile a defense for them with the 8 million in space they have with 7 guys on a NTC with 20 or higher teams they can't go to. I don't know how they get it done.

They can buy out gourde. The contract is not bonus laden so it’s somewhat buyout friendly. Killorn is having a great season and after this year he has has a 16 team trade list. They’ll be fine. They would trade sergachev before getting rid of cirelli

That saves them 2 million, with 3 d-men and 7 forwards under contract. 10 million to fill out the other 3 D and 5 forwards, one of which is gonna cost 5 million himself. Good luck.

This is a HUGE overpay by Minni. Retaining 300000 on a contract with term left is a TERRIBLE idea

Great you've mentioned that much appreciated. BUT I am not in the business of figuring out all of TBL issues.
However, Cirelli is an RFA so that's to TBL advantage (period).
* Back to your point: I don't see how adding Dumba @ US$3M/per until 2023 helps TBL as much as getting a slick RFA Cirelli helps MINNY?

For 3 seasons where the Wild won't be close to the cap as far as anyone can tell, not a huge deal in my opinion.

Yep. I think in both the Cirelli and Strome case the Wild will have the cap space and depending on how the sell off goes the draft picks to leverage one of them away from their team.

He might recieve a couple but that doesnt mean he will sign one. Not a lot of people like leaving Tampa

True. I guess it depends on how much he likes money and how quickly he wants his future figured out, might not want to wait for Tampa to make moves to be able to keep him.

I did an edit to $3M thanks...
Still adamant that Dumba to TBL is a sideways-move defensively for the Lightning.
Cirelli is to TBL what Tkachuk is to CAL...end of story IMO!

Brayden points agent made it known that he was not interested in signing an offersheet - and he could have gotten a lot more AAV than he did with the lightning.

The point is they have zero RD under contract so they need someone to play top pair minutes, even second pair if Shattenkirk signs cheap.

OK I see your point w/ Kevin S. on the UFA runway...
TBL has C. Foote coming and can look to TDL/free agency/draft moves to get the RD without parting w/ Cirelli?
* TBL trade bait = Palat-Gourde-Johnson-Killorn-Paquette-Maroon (NOT Cirelli)...

Paquette is moveable, Maroon UFA, those other guys all have some sort of no-trade clause and Killorn is the only one that might be easy to move because he only lists 16 teams. The others can list as high as 23.
