the owners would step in even if Lou wanted to take the 1st rd picks. They took over Tavares negotiations. Bottom line they’re not letting another star center go.

How'd that go for them? The Tavares negotiations?

Terrible, because they let him have all the control. Luckily barzal is an RFA and he doesn’t control anything.

I'm well aware of the immediate back lash this post would see, it's based on an article I just read quoting LeBrun stating that there will be OS on the island there were a few teams mentioned Boston being 1 based solely on having the room and the fact their a top 5 team without Barzal, makes it a little more reasonable that Barzal would sign this particular OS, other teams mentioned were Detroit (Yzerman is player whisperer) Ottawa but unlikely, Buffalo cause they need some sort of move to prop up the Fan base, NJ but unlikely due to the restraints it would cause 3 years down the road. TBH I really hope Barzal stays on the island fans don't deserve that twice in 4 years.

Except the option posted here, but highly unlikely

Not sure How they "let" him have all the control, he was a UFA so by default had full control, Islanders ran the risk not moving him prior but I'd say any team would have taken that risk

Tavares didn’t want to discuss contract during the season, they granted that request as well as his request to not be traded (which was dumb). He should have been given an ultimatum. It was evident that before the trade deadline he had already checked out. I knew he was leaving.

Barzal can sign an offersheet (in fact I want him to, it’s entertaining) but will he if he knows that there’s a very high chance isles will match? My point is even if barzal wanted out (there’s no reason to believe that) he doesn’t have any real control. He can sign the offer sheet, but isles will match almost anything.

With aho, maybe the Canadiens/ahos camp thought that because of canes owner cheap ways, he wouldn’t match a front loaded contract.

I guess he would if the OS is higher payout than what the ILS would be offering at the time

Honestly the Aho OS was signed by Aho cause it walked him FA, that's it and that makes total sense cause the player gains full control of his career at 27

I think there's so much more thought out into an OS signing than us fans would think, I really can't believe MB fell for it it wasn't even a serious we want this player OS

Minny most definitely would , they have no C and now they keep Dumba cause you know he's Norris calibre

The answer to Minnesota's center problem is not another aging center like Krejci - I like Krejci and think he's a solid player still at almost 34. But that is not who the Wild need. And if they don't make the playoffs, you think they'll trade a 2020 1st for him - no chance.

What team would trade a 2020 1st for a 34 year old center with a $7m+ cap-hit with only one year remaining on his deal. A deal like this may happen closer to the trade deadline, but it is not a summertime deal. You'd have to lower expectations on a return for Krejci or retain some salary if you want to trade him in the summer. The only teams that would want Krejci would be contending teams, and they tend to have little cap space.

Krejci would actually look pretty great on the Avs for 2021 year - they have the cap and wouldn't need to worry about him being on the books next year. Or if he is, it would be at a much reduced salary.

laugh Yeah in what world would Minny give up a 1st for that Krejci contract?

Agree completely. Bill Guerin isn't dumb enough to make this deal, but Jason Botterill is.

Krejci would definitely be worth a first to a contender whether it's at the trade deadline or offseason. consistent 60-70 point guy. Teams have given up firsts for a lot worst LOL. Also not sure why you think his contract is bad. Market value at this point.

The teams that would want Krejci would be one's close to the cap. So in order to get the assets you want back, you would potentially have to retain salary. And sure he's a consistent player, but he turns 34 this season and only has one year left at a high cap hit--that is not typically the player a team will trade a 1st in the off-season for. They'll wait til the deadline or will need some retention - that's all I'm saying.

No the wild (or any contender) would do that in a heartbeat at the TDL.
But its the bruins who decline ehre. Krejci makes players around him better, and puts up 1st line points as a second liner with 3rd line wingers all the time lol.

That's what I said. It's a TDL move, not a summer move.

Cool. I wasnt talking to you. I was refering to the first comment saying it was a dumb trade.

MN will keep the first and run with Staal and JEE as the top-6 centers. Dumb move in the summer for an old rental.

I just don't see why Boston would OS Barzal. Rumor is he didn't do well when they interviewed him and he rubbed some people the wrong way....that's why Boston passed on him.
