2020 Offseason- BIG TRADE NYR-Mika to Min

Created by: MJOHNSON1201
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2020
Published: Mar. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
What would it take for NYR to trade Mika to MIN? Depends on who you are asking (for some people nothing would be enough) Mika and Mats work really well together in NY and Min should explore this!

Breakdown:
After trading Brady Skjei NYR could use a top shutdown defense enter Brodin (last year of contract but could be renewed). MIn also adds a Ek to give NYR a young Center. Lodnia and Sokolov are prospects with higher upsides but need some work, Adam Beckman is a prospect having a great year in WHL, and I dont think the draft picks need an explanation. So recap, NYR gets 2 NHL players, 3 Prospects , and 2 Picks. MIN gets there top end center and a mid pick.

I trying to use this as a starting point, so don't go all crazy if you feel this is off. Would NYR prefer Greenway to Ek. I just thought Centers are a higher commodity than wingers.

Thanks.

No thanks. It definitely is a good package but...

Brodin doesn't fix anything for us, we want to build around our young d-men
JEE is a bottom sixer and we have loads of that
Sokolov is great but we need players who'll play RIGHT NOW
And the picks are great, but again, we need players who'll play RIGHT NOW

Imo this falls under the classic quantity for quality trades. Granted NYR could have use for the assets they're getting here, but none of them is even close to being good enough the fill the hole moving Zibanejad would create.

Value-wise, it needs to be in the ballpark of a move such as:

Minnesota Wild
Mika Zibanejad

New York Rangers
Matt Dumba
Matthew Boldy
Dmitry Sokolov
2020 1st round pick (MIN)

Thanks for the feedback. Too be honest, I just wasn't quite sure what NYR is doing. The Brady trade really threw me off and it seemed a mini rebuild was on the horizon and I wanted to reignite Mats

Zib is turning into the 1C the Rangers haven't had in 15+ years. He is invaluable to this team and their success moving forward.
I'm a firm believer in the fact that anything is for sale at the right price but in this case the price is something that Minny couldn't afford.

Thanks for the input. I think I would do this with the following edit. Remove Boldy and add Adam Beckman and a 2021 2nd.

You're probably right that the trade isn't enough, but it's also worth mentioning that it's a huge risk for the Wild with him being a UFA in a couple years. How would Guerin look if he gave up a huge package to land a legit 1C and then he leaves in 2022?

Sokolov and Ladiona aren't worth anything, neither will likely ever see the NHL.

JEE, Fiala, Kaprizov, and Kunin should be the players MN doesn't move. I like Zibby a lot, but if one of those 4 are in the deal it really makes me think about making the trade.

Brodin doesn't seem like a good fit for NYR.

As a highly potential future TOP6 C. I'd say Boldy must be in the trade, despite Beckman having a terrific season in WHL.

Yeah it's a huge risk. Imo Wild should not go for that route.

Regardless, the demand of NYR should be in that ballpark.

Boldy's not a center. A future top-6 LW sure.

Lots of players are labeled as centers but really aren't. His college team tried him there for the first half of the season and it wasn't a good experiment. After he was moved back to wing he started lighting things up.
