No CBO but 85 mil cap and trades with CBJ and NYI

Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 25, 2020
Published: Mar. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
On the Lewis signing: one of the major weaknesses TOR currently has is that they don't have a C who can play on the PK except Gauthier and he's only been playing there for a small time. Lewis fixes a major need TOR has for cheap... I mean, he's always been a 4th liner so...

On the Dermott signing: he wouldn't be 100% worth it during the contract's 1st year, but he would be exactly worth that during his 2nd year and he'd be somewhat of a bargain during the 3rd year

Quick predictions:

Matthews: 45-55 goals
Tavares: more or less 40 goals
Marner: 25-30 goals
Nylander: around 30-35 goals
Hyman: 20-25 goals
Engvall: 12-15 goals
Kapanen: more or less 20 goals
Mikeyev: 15-20 goals
Spezza: 15 goals
Clifford: more or less 10 goals¨
Gauthier: same as Clifford
Lewis: 5-10 goals

Reilly: 70 pts
Sandin: 35 pts
Muzzin: 30-35 pts
Dermott: 20-25 pts
Holl and Mayfield: more or less 15 pts

I'd expect Andersen to win 28-35 games and Campbell to win around 15... Andersen starts 50 and Campbell starts 32.

Not entirely sure why everybody thinks the cap is going up at all given the state of the world and the financial ramifications to revenue streams at present. The smart play is to bet on a flat cap or even a slight reduction with buyout options at present.

Engvall is not a 3rd line centre. He isn't even a 4th line centre in the NHL in my eyes.

I would not pay Kyle Clifford that much, no chance.

I have no interest in bringing Gauthier back at all. He provides very little to Keefe's system.

no way the cap goes down. Even if they are taking a loss they will capture it back in future years with smaller raises in the cap.
It's too much of a headache for the cap to go down.

They will create space with buyouts.

I think one of the teams effected the most out of this whole ordeal is Seattle and no one is really talking about that yet.
If teams get CBOs, then there will be less cap dump trades to Seattle and less 1st round picks changing hands.
As I'm sure a few teams were eyeing up Seattle as future trade partners to take a cap dump for a pick.
Now they will have less chance.

Because teams already have the majority of their revenues

I don't know if we really know what is effected and what isn't. But I do know one thing. I bet those contracts are insured for things like TV.

Well... they have close to 85% of the regular season revenues for gates and zero of the revenues for the playoffs. I understand that the big money comes from sponsorship and media deals, but to think that the cap is going to go up by the numbers originally predicted would be foolish IMO. Any team that is counting on those numbers may not have a chair to sit in when the music stops.

Engvall cant play 3c, Clifford definitely cant play above the 3rd line and gauthier is a league minimum player. The kerfoot trade is pointless and mayfield is more of a #5

Don't trade Kerfoot, don't sign Lewis or Clifford, or at most one of them. They are both good 4th line wingers, adequate at BEST 3rd line wingers.

Muzzin can't play RD, at least not well.
Mayfield isn't a 1 RD.

If Muzzin was able to play RD, we'd be set with an excellent top pair of Rielly-Muzzin
Then could do
Dermott-Holl
Sandin- Liljegren/Rosen/Marincin

Columbus would rather have their picks. We need a 2nd line center, and I’ve realized that Kerfoot is nothing more then a 3rd line center, something Columbus doesn’t need.
