If CBO allowed - Heres what I do

Created by: HabsFan33
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 2, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I would think it's safe to say that if the league is shutdown for the rest of this season, revenues would be lower obviously and the NHL would allow a compliance buyout for every team. If this happens, Habs need to use it to clear Weber's contract from the books. Weber would get $12M in buyout out of the $18M is still owed. MTL then resigns him to a 3 yr, $8M deal. Give us a little more room to add something up front or maybe even another LD. And before you say they can't resign Weber after they buy him out, Flames did it with Michael Stone this season. Weber's new deal would be $8M over 3 yrs broken down this way: 20-21 @ $4M, 21-22 @ $3M and final year @ $1M. He would still end up making a total of $20M, which is more than he currently has left on his deal. And Habs are not stuck with a high cap hit for another 6 yrs. Weber could then retire at age 37.

You’d probably buyout Alzner as well. That’s a no brainer

You could obviously but I really don't think it's necessary for the Habs to do that. Alzner wouldn't get a contract anywhere else, he should be happy to collect is full contract in the minors where he can still play.

bottom 6 centers that can control play 5 v 5 and shut down opposing teams top players are extremely valuable.

Send Mete somewhere that needs a bottom pairing LHD. Edmonton isn't that team.

As a Habs fan, just wanted to add a gritty fourth line center who was younger than Thompson. I would assume that the Isles will have to shed some salary next year if they want to resign Barzal. And if they decide to revisit the Parise-Ladd deal, they'll need some room. They could easily resign Brassard at the same price to be their 4th line center. Not familiar with the Isles depth and line up structure.

Agree! That's why you guys went out and overspent on Pageau! Brassard could easily play 4th C and be responsible enough defensively. Pageau now becomes your shutdown man.

I think pageau was a slight overpayment , but it was necessary. He's better than a 3C.

Brassard is the reason why it was necessary to go out and acquire pageau - he can't handle the defensive responsibility. Playing center also makes him an offensive blackhole. At this point in his career , brassard is more suited to play wing.

There is no incentive for the isles to move cizikas. I'd much rather have barzal, nelson, pageau, cizikas down the middle than a 3rd + 5th rd pick.

If a CBO happens and MTL chooses Weber or Price. They would get their full contracts worth of pay but over a longer period of time. Also as per the previous CBO rules (and I highly doubt this changes) you cannot resign a player that you have bought out for a full year.

There's no way you can resign a player after buying them out. In which case you would never buyout Weber right?

Don't overthink things, Alzner is the obvious choice.
