The league will begin to be scared of the sens once uncle Eugene starts to pay his talent and keeps them 😉

They paid Chabot. I expect them to sign Tkachuk longterm. Probably 4 more years till they think about paying their top picks

your team is going to have so much insane talent from the draft i'm very jealous, you guys already have some fantastic prospects too! Just missing a true G prospect to take over for Andy/ some higher end D prospects and you guys are cup contenders in the next few years for sure.

What he said.

And you gotta hope that they are able to get Byfield or some other top C soon because without that, nobody's scared.

Getting any 2 of Laf, Byfield, Stutzle, Rossi, Raymond is going to be lethal

yeah i'm excited about out future too!! if we stay at 8 and don't move down at all we are still getting our hands on a very high end prospect to add to our pool so i'm super excited about that!

This team has insane potential no doubt, but you need that true #1 goalie to TRULY compete. Also, I think Brannstrom will make the jump next season. Why isn't he here?

Yep, this draft is loaded too so I can see Montreal getting a really nice prospect to add to their already great prospect pool. Another sad thought for us Leafs fans...frown(

oh I know they paid their stars on their ELC, was just being tongue and cheek about it
Its going to be interesting if the purse strings come off on guys who need to get paid after their 2nd or bridge deals.

Easy to pay big bucks off ELC when you have a star already and need to invest to get to the cap floor. If Sens are willing to spend to the cap in a few years they will be scary

I really see no future for the Leafs where they can keep their top 4 forwards and improve the team where they need it. Its going to be horrible once Rielly, Sandin and Andersen need raises. Im not trying to hate but i played around with it and its really hard when u have almost 5 million going to almost 50 mill going to 5 players

They dodged a bullet not re-signing Karlsson and Duchene. Stone is the only one living up to his contract but who knows for how long.

Duchene is still a solid contract, hes a 1A type Top6 C. At 8m its very fair.
Its more like the Zibby type moves that he pulled, moving out young talent who need raises bc they are playing the nickel and dime game. That one really stings if im a sens fan

I totally agree which is the most frustrating part. I still think Dubas is a pretty good manager in this league I just think he got a bit over-ambitious with the JT signing. He's going to be the downfall of this organization unless Dubas can pull off a miracle. I say we have 1 or 2 years to contend before everything goes to ****. neutral

Zibby and Hoffman are definitely his worse move, along with the trade with Colorado. I still dont understand how it took Turris + 2 1st rounders to get Duchene

That was 100% ownership over spending on a player he lusted over for multiple seasons. Apparently Eugene has wanted Duchene for years and didnt really care at the price to get him.
Apparently when Roy was still part GM, there was a deal being worked on that had Chabot++ for Duchene (2.5 years of control left on his contract). He was doing this on his own with Eugene without Sakic and McFarland and the rest of the Sens front office knowing, once they did the deal blew apart

It was Chabot + White I think but Ottawa refused to part with Chabot. In 2012, Ottawa was hard after Rick Nash. The Ask was Zibanejad + Lehner but Ottawa refused to pay Columbus that

Ive heard rumours of Chabot, White and Wolanin as names tossed around in this early on deal talk, who knows how far it got or what names were getting close...still wild that that was almost a real thing in 2017 I believe. I really want a tell all book about almost trades being completed. If someone could write that it would be every hockey fans wet dream

What about almost drafted? Brian Burke said he would’ve taken Morgan Rielly at 1 over Yakupov. He really wasn’t impressed with him

the drafted ones I dont really believe. If a team is in the 5th/6th spot for example they spend more time scouting the guys who would be in that range and fall in love with them more.
I just love the almost trade stuff. It just came out that Blue Jackets were close to getting Pronger when he was traded from St Louis to Edmonton but they didnt want to part with Alexandre Picard who was a recent 8th overall pick and they loved him (he had 2 points in 67 total NHL games over 5 seasons)
