Idea about Burns its not a trade

Created by: LafreniereIsGOATed
Team: 2020-21 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: May 15, 2020

Description
Burns is now 35. 36 at the end of 20-21.

I don't think he can play 24+ minutes per game for much longer (he'd play less at F). We already saw decline this year. Of course the Sharks as a whole declined but Burns too.

I think moving him to RW would be the smartest idea possible. SJ has a hole at RW. Their only goal scoring one is Labanc. So, moving Burns there probably adds 20 goals to the top 6, plus a lot of assists, which would be helpful.

Here's how I would fil the rest of the roster:

Toronto fans think they can get Pesce or Dumba for Kapanen/Johnsson + Dermott. There's homers everywhere.

If they retained 2,5 mil yeah maybe... CGY could be a fit IMO

Like: Burns (2,5 mil retained) for Brodies's rights, 2021 1st, B- prospect and another asset maybe

Yeah, having Burns' offensive talents on the blue line is a waste when his defensive prowess (nothing to write home about in the best of times) has declined, he has to play behind Karlsson anyway and the Sharks are weak at forward, especially RW. Signing a lesser UFA defenseman or even targeting one in a trade would be prudent and shifting Burns to forward, especially if their backs are against the wall and they have to move on from Labanc if he takes them to arbitration. Besides, can never have too many RHDs.

Interesting idea, I just don't think it would work great. Burns is known for taking lots of shots and having a huge slapshot, which he wouldn't be able to take as often if he played as a forward. He also is old and I just don't think he has the speed to be a top 6 forward.

He'd have more time to rest since his time on ice would decrease

That's true. I still think he can play top 4 minutes now so we'll maybe talk about this next season when Merkley is hopefully ready.

Really? I was unaware. Definitely makes a lot of sense then. I do agree that less minutes would definitely make him more effective

It is a interesting idea. For sure. I mean before he was a d-man he was an 40-50 point winger. Not bad but when he became a d-man he won a Norris. So yea. I would be open to it. I think tho along with beinging in a guy who could replace him on the blue line we would need to bring in a middle 6 guy in case burns would be a d-man.

I might take a spin at this later today
