A Monahan Attempt

Created by: Viqsi
Team: 2020-21 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: May 23, 2020
Published: May 23, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Got the impression that Monahan might be available if the Flames decide to do a retool, so this is an attempt to see if it's possible to come up with a decent package. I suspect the answer to this proposal is "no thanks", but you can't win if you don't try.

It would probably have to be a trade that helps both teams right now

If Calgary trades Monahan for this they should trade Gaudreau too.

From a Jackets perspective, I would not want to part with Foudy, even for Monahan. Sub Texier or Bemstrom for Foudy? Maybe.

I wouldn't do this if I was CBJ either.
You are basically asking for 3 1st and a guy with great potential.
I don't think the value is there. He's basically been a 60 pt player his whole career. That doesn't get you that kind of return.

If they'd accept Bemstrom, I'd do that too. I don't want to lose Tex. I consider Foudy an acceptable loss because I think Monahan largely is what we hope Foudy becomes.

Where do you get 3 1sts with the "and"? The pick swap only happens if Anderson falls apart.

regardless, he's a 60 point player. He's not worth that.

He's a #2C signed to a solid contract and we're mostly offering futures. It's going to look a tad disproportionate if you value futures highly.

100% agreed, from a CBJ view I'd take your trade in a minute. I like Foudy and think he has potential to be a good 2C but it seems like a lot of CBJ fans are already penciling him at 2C starting next year. It's way too early to be doing that and I think the chances of him getting to good 2C level might be 1 in 3 at best. Lots of players light it up in the OHL but very few play at that same level in the NHL. If someone is okay with trading their higher end 2C and Foudy is going the other way then good luck Liam.

I really don't think you get the needs of CBJ.
They don't need a 2C who is lower tier. This is a team that really needs that 1 stand out guy.
This really isn't it and hence not worth the value.
Truth is they got a really good center in PLD. But he's not a top tier 1C, and probably would be a really nice C behind someone who is sort of in that role.
This is bringing in a guy who frankly, is not as good as PLD and paying through the nose doing it. He's not worth it.

No, sorry, **** that noise. I've seen how this team performs when it does that monomaniacal focus on We Only Need That One Guy, and while I appreciate Rick Nash a great deal nobody can deny that we were a ****ing joke back then. Hockey is a team sport; this idiotic fixation on "just bring in the One True Savior" is asinine and counterproductive, and has gotten us burned too g-ddamn many times. I want a team. One Guy To Draw All Attention is a total waste of time and resources.

yeah this is just nonsense.
Anyone watching CBJ knows all the pieces part are there on the team. They got role players. A whole damn slew of them and they got guys who are great to help.
But that in no way diminishes their need for a real top line center. Of which this arm and a leg payment is absurd. He doesn't help CBJ win a cup. Period.
