How can we even say Hughes had a rough season? Its the first time weve ever seen him in the NHL!

Compared to other players 18 year old seasons, he had a rough year.

Because statistically he had one of the worst first seasons of a #1 overall in the last 25 years.

Subban feels like a pretty harsh poison pill at this point in his career, but I'm guessing he would spend 1 year as 2nd pair guy and the last year on the 3rd pair.

The Wild would have to be damm sure Hughes would pan out as a legit #1 if they are giving all this up!

Since trades are all about speculation...the Wild are potentially giving up a #1 RHD, 2 top 6 forwards (Boldy and the 11th pick), and a solid NHLer with the Pittsburgh pick for a potential top 6 center and an overpaid player who seems to wear out his welcome (as a player) everywhere he goes...

Hughes isn't just a "potential top 6 center" lol. try potential franchise center

I think you're underselling Hughes, I still believe he has 80 point+ potential. But yeah it's an extremely risky trade...

Maybe he didn't live up to the pre-season hype, but when comparing his game to Kakko and Dach, I'd take Hughes' season over both of theirs.

You already mentioned that the trade is a "dumb idea," but I think you're value is pretty close especially since you're willing to take on the full Subban contract (probably worth a 1st or 2nd, itself). The bottom line is that no GM would ever trade their #1 overall after one season, let alone NJD's interim GM.

I said it's dumb because of this, not because it's a bad idea for the Wild. I believe in Hughes potential, but there is risk in trading for any unproven player.

This isn’t my trade. I wouldn’t trade Hughes period.

Where is the high end center? I see a winger and a d-man coming back to MN.

I think Hughes can play center, but maybe you disagree. He will never be known for his defensive abilities but we'd have Ek to handle that

I think Kunin can play center too. It doesn't mean he should.
