Unrealistic Drip TORandCAL

Description
So to be VERY clear, I do not believe that the trade with Toronto will actually happen but the idea is in the right path. Rangers upgrade their center position, Toronto upgrades their right defense while adding bottom 6 piece and a draft pick. Yes, Trouba's contract is a monster and TOR is in a tough place cap wise (big component of why I don't see it happening) but this is the type of trade that would realistically benefit both teams in the long run.

Sam Bennett deal is realistic and the more I watch highlights of Bennett the more I fall in love with him in a 3rd/4th line role between first round pick skill guys like Gauthier and Kravtsov (if Nylander isn't here and Chytil is 2C) or as a grueling 4th line to play against between Lemieux and Fast.

K'Andre Miller I have starting in the AHL and eventually getting called up similar to Ryan McDonagh in his rookie season. He's just a bit too raw and think he can make the team out of camp but some seasoning will do him some good.

Speaking of Ryan McDonagh, I see many people compare Jake Sanderson to him and that's why I want him early in the 1st round. He doesn't need to be an offensive stud but if he can skate, move the puck out of the zone, be physical, and be a staple on the PK I'm all in. No I don't see him making the team next year but I had to put him there just to get the look at the future pairs.

Lindgren and Fox looked solid together last year, could hardly tell they were rookies but no guarantee they stick together. I really think Sanderson could eventually become Fox's partner since Fox plays a stronger defensive game than DeAngelo, move Lindgren next to ADA.

Smith is just a placeholder for Miller. Once he is ready he will move into that spot next to Lundkvist.

This D is ridiculously young which is a huge risk but it will take 2-3 years for them all to be ready, and again I think Sanderson will go the NCAA route for 2-3 years before making the team.

Leafs decline fast. We have no interest in Trouba who has been horrible defensively this year.
Since your drafting Sanderson I assume the rangers beat them and this pick is late. That is a clear cut NO from us

I dont see Leafs making that trade.. Nylander would probably have to go for Fox or Lundkvist minimum. Plus those 8M on Trouba is real bourdain.. also Sanderson is looong gone at 19-20 spot..

Im going to echo What the other leafs fans have said and decline the Nylander trade. I wasn't overly impressed with Troubas year, and it seems like he will soon be playing second fiddle to Fox and or DeAngelo while making 8 Million a year. Take out Howden and the first and throw in Nils Lundqvist and i do the deal though.

Im also a Flames fan and i would take that trade in a heartbeat no take backs.

Morrissey really made Trouba look good, he has not looked like the player he was with the Jets since becoming a Ranger.

Leafs decline.

Calgary loves that trades. Certainly the Rangers could do better trading Strome or Georgiev in separate trades.
The Leaf trade. Certainly it could be considered a fair trade if Trouba is a 6m player in value, not an 8m or 4m playing value. But gotta think the Leafs if they trade Nylander it would be be for cap relief to sign some "lesser" players to fill the roster not taking on Trouba and his cap.
Plus we have seen much Trouba didn't want to play in Canada, the Leafs wouldn't trade for an unhappy long term player. Don't think Trouba hated Canada but it was because his girlfriend needed to complete her medical studies in the US and Trouba's father could not freely across the border (allegedly )

This is correct regarding not wanting to play in Canada, I did not remember the situation with his wife/girlfriend until just now so that all but eliminates a trade there. His NTC doesn't kick in until what would have been July 1st in a year where the world wasn't coming to an end so I don't know how those contract details are going to be sorted out but I'm sure it doesn't look good to trade a guy a year after having him to a place he publicly has stated he does not want to go for family reasons. I am just so hesitant to give up ADA over him.

As far as the Calgary trade, I want it for their 1st round pick instead of the 2nd along with Sam Bennett but have getting SLAUGHTERED over that so I dropped it to a 2nd if that would be more reasonable.

I personally think Trouba's struggles were overblown. Was he worth 8M? No but I think there is a good chance he was playing hurt. It's also his first year in a new place and needed time to adjust to a Lindy Ruff system that many have called as the problem with the D. I believe he'll bounce back next season

Stop with the Trouba crap to Toronto, He made it abundantly clear that he has no desire to play in Canada again. At the time he was dealt it was only Detroit and the Rangers those were to only locations he would agree to. He's not playing in Canada and Gorton wont deal him to any Canadian City.

Ok first of all...calm down. He does not have any trade protection until the 2nd year of this contract begins therefore the Rangers could realistically trade him anywhere they want. They may have to take less for a team in Canada and Canadian teams may shy away from him but he's under contract and has no trade protection so he can be traded.

As a Leafs fan, what is it that your team is looking to add? Am I correct in saying that a Top 4 Right Handed defenseman is of value to the Leafs?

Gee, a top 4 RHD is important to all 31 teams just not the Leafs. 60% of NHL players shoot left, so getting three competent to good Dman that shoot right just might be darn impossible, despite the folks on CapFriendly that think its mandatory that the Leaf obtain three at any cost
I just don't think the Leafs can afford or even want to put so much cap onto one player like Trouba who certainly isn't deserving of being paid as a top 10 NHL DMan.
The only solution right now is have Holl, Dermot, Lehoten or on the right side. The Leafs could trade 7m X 4 Nylander for non cap
futures and then use the free cap to sign a competent UFA like Tanev or DeMelo.
A straight Nylander for a RHD trade, seems almost impossible after seeing hundreds of suggested trades, but there might be an uncovered gem still to be posted.
