Do these trades work

Description
1. Winnipeg trade: Now I don't think that Winnipeg moves Ehlers, no, but if they did, would this be enough? To me this seems like fair value.
2. St Louis Blues trade: To me this seems like an overpay by Montreal but I would be willing to do it to strengthen our LD now instead of 2 or 3 years from now. Blues get cap relief to sign their captain, as well as a serviceable player in Mete and a very good defensemen prospect in Struble. I really feel that the draft pick in this should be going to Montreal not from Montreal where they are Buying out Steen and taking the full salary from Allen, but I think getting Dunn is worth the overpay.

STL would be crazy not to make the second deal.

They need cap space to sign their Captain. That gives them that. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.

Tough to decide as a Blues fan. I think the value’s there but I’m not keen on giving up Dunn. I think we may be able to get rid of Steen for whatever we get back in an Allen deal. We’re also probably moving Bozak and he’ll bring back assets we can use to get a team to take on Steen if we choose. I’d say no to the deal because of these factors, but a very fair offer.

Yeah but you're trading away their best LD to resign the Captain. I think St Louis finds a different route where they offload Steen's contract on a team, which should be enough to resign Pietrangelo and keep Dunn. I think they'll be hesitant to downgrade from Dunn to Mete instead of offloading a less important player to find cap space

Might be a hot take but I'd rather have the next 8 years of Dunn versus the next 8 years of Pietrangelo, all things considered - younger, cheaper, more balanced with Parayko-Faulk already on the right side. Now if there is a way to sign Petro without losing Dunn, I'm all for it. (And there is, but it's more complicated than what can typically happen in an offseason, especially one with no cap increase.)

If I'm a Habs fan, I'm pissed that the Canadian have 3.6m in dead buyout cap and about 2.5m paying too much for backup. Couldn't that 6m be used to acquire a real player? Gee, you signed Dunn for just 2.3, and 6.1m is just wasted.
