That was me messing with Rags lol. No one thinks he's a 2C. He's a top 5 C in the NHL

I just don’t see Carolina paying that steep of a price to slot that low in line up. If I was giving up that much I’d most definitely be pencilling him in the top six. I have no idea if value is even close on the trade because that’s a lot to retain in a uncertain time.

I think Svechnikov would have to be going back in the LA deal for the Kings to pay 5 million per year for Anze Kopitar to not be on their team. He is still a very good player
Overpaid but very good.

Svech is straight-up better than Kopitar, and he's a decade youger.

Malkin is a 1C on most teams. Only a 2C in pitt because of Sid.

Agreed but you are asking the Kings to pay 5 million per year for Kopitar to play for someone else. Not only do the Kings lose a very good two center, but also they still have to pay for that player. It would be different if this were 1 year remaining on his deal. But this would be like the Canes trading Lehner next year after a solid season and retaining 3.5 per on him. You would want some.significant.pieces coming back on entry level deals to even consider because for 4 years there are 3.5 million that could be used to acquire or keep another good player that would not be at your disposal.

That's why Jake Bean, Warren Foegele, Haydn Fleury and Ryan Suzuki are in this deal. All are significant pieces. 1/2 of them would be in a trade for Kopitar taking his full cap hit, adding them in MORE than makes up the value. For 20 mil over 4 years, you get 2 top 4 D prospects, bean may have top pairing potential, a top 6 winger who's already shown flashes of stardom and a centre prospect who was drafted in the 1st round last year, and was projected to go much higher, on top of a 1st and 2nd. It's also not like they're gonna be spending the money on free agents to contend. They're in a rebuild and it makes sense. The best move for LA would then be to retain to maximise the assets they get back. Retaining 5 mil doesn't get Svechnikov, hell, Carolina ate a 6.25 mil cap hit and only got a 1st in the deepest draft since 03 for it.

Foegele is at best a below average top 6 winger on pace for 35 points, Fleury is a bottom pair defenseman no longer a prospect, Suzuki is a decent prospect but nothing about screams cant miss or elite. Bean is a good prospect who has played very well in the AHL but again after being drafted 3 years ago has not cracked an nhl lineup. I would argue that this package is similar to what the Canes acquired Trocheck for except Trochek you only get for 2.5 years instead of 5 and Kopitar is twice the player he is easily.

This trade doesn’t really help the kings. Although I do like suzuki and bean, the kings have those players already developing. There’s no reason for the kings to ever do this. Plus having to retain 5mil, no thanks

Kopitar isn't being traded. There's no way to adequately judge his value in a trade proposal because a team would have to massively overpay to acquire him.

If offered, the Kings would decline this trade.
